Backlash as women gain more and more rights and more and more ability to speak out and more and more ability to sometimes actually have laws passed to our advantage.

So in newspaper editorials and church sermons, anti-feminists argued vociferously that the public arena was not the proper place for women.

This is our history.

so the republicans were highly honored as wise loyal and clear-sighted but again when the slaves were emancipated and they asked that women should be recognized in the reconstruction as citizens of the republic equal before the law all these transcendent virtues vanished like dew before the morning sun and thus it is ever so as long as women labour secondary labours to second man's endeavours and exalt his sex above her own handmaidens the more things change the more they stay the same Her virtues then pass unquestioned, but when she dares to demand rights and privileges for herself, her motives, manners, dress, personal appearance, character, those are all subjects for ridicule and detraction.

Backlash.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

That means backlash can become a permanent economic strategy for platforms.

Exactly.

Backlash stops being a phase and becomes an input variable.

So what's the AI-driven reset part then? Are we talking about better systems or different players? Sometimes it's just new tooling for old incentives, and everyone calls it progress.

But there's a real opportunity to redesign incentives so the system doesn't amplify resentment.

And expectations shape investment, and investment shapes AI capability.

So we circle back.

Backlash isn't just cultural, it's economic signaling.

I think there would still be armed conflict for sure, but I don't think that there would be this, certainly not the sort of shit we're seeing from Donald Trump.

But anyway, this is all circling back to Gloria Steinem as being the avatar for this movement that seemed so strong, especially when she was active to a place now where we're really in the midst of the backlash against that.

Backlash is proof that we're making progress is the thing.

There would be no backlash if we had not pushed into new territory.
