Baby Keem

Now despite Look Over Your Shoulder being released in 2020, Kendrick's verse was actually recorded years earlier and is better understood as part of his 2017-2018 output.

Kendrick's real return from his long hiatus came in 2021 when he helped launch Baby Keem's debut album on PG Lang with Family Ties.

Niggas playing with me, man.

On Family Ties, Kendrick sounded fully re-energized, using his half of the song to both address his years away and signal that a new era of dominance was imminent.

Kendrick's three appearances on Baby Keem's The Melodic Blue didn't turn out to be the full-scale return they seemed to signal at the time.

Of course, he did release Mr.

Morale and the Big Steppers the following year, but its focus on therapy and healing was a far cry from the aggressive bravado of Family Ties.

Morale, and in 2023, Kendrick gave just one guest verse on Beyonce's America Has a Problem remix.

And you can kind of lose yourself to the opportunities of it all.

As the famous Baby Keem says in the song Family Ties, what's the pros and the cons of this next check? And I'm so serious.

This is a question that my husband and I like talk about all the time when opportunities come along, when jobs come along, when brand campaigns come up, like what are the pros and cons of this? Like, is this something that truly fits into my long-term vision or is this just something I'm viewing as like a quick come up, you know, a quick bag to put in my pocket because everything has a cost.

Everything has a cost and you have to make sure that the cost that you're paying is worth it, you know, and that it aligns with the things that you say that you want.
