Axie Infinity

I've done all sorts of crazy things.

I went to Axie Infinity community gatherings in K-Town in New York.

I had an NFT collection that maybe at some point will be interesting again in the future.

And I do think there's a future of NFTs that come back.

With the MMO, there's just a lot of player personas that are playing the game.

You have the players that are getting sponsored, right? You know, kind of Axie scholar model, right? You know, they don't actually buy in, you know, they're kind of playing, they're joining these guilds.

You have, you know, the players that never actually log in the game, right? They're just playing the macro layer, right? And then you have the actual sort of risk loop.

It's very Ark Raiders, Tarkov life, extraction.

It's been a couple of years in development now.

And I think with Genesys, there's a lot of native direct token utility.

I think AXS and the Axies, kind of needs the token to be live to make it all work.

It's been tricky because, you know, like I think like with tokens these days, right? Like, you know, either the buyback meta or there's some sort of compelling narrative, right? So we've kind of been a little slow, I think, in terms of shipping this out, right? You know, kind of just on the narrative and sort of the pitch.

And so I know you you remember this.

I have viewed the Axie Infinity example as something everyone needs to go study and just realize that that that example of how an economy grows virtually.

People need to think about that with tokenization, in my opinion, because I just I studied that.

That's what originally got me so interested in.

in crypto, the ecosystem was what was happening with Axie Infinity.

The other part of the dollar is control.

So from a geopolitical basis, tokenization and all of these things, I think the control goes down because of stable coins and all this.

I had a blast playing Zed Run in its heyday.

And Axie Infinity was popping off during that time.

What do you think it would take to get Web3 gaming specifically back to those levels?

Yeah, like Nord, I've been in the crypto space for about 10 years, a little over 10.

Nord and I both agree that the viewership is there.

The people are showing out.

What I think hasn't really connected, that will bring it back, is some sort of... spark that ignites the communities to the games in the same way web 2 does where you if you go into a web 2 game like star wars whatever it may be you can tell how much on fire it is like war dogs right now how the community is posting stuff they are talking with each other they have guilds there's a lot of commerce going on even off-chain converse That happened with Axie Infinity, but you can always tell that there's – I'm going to put this really, really politely.

There are people there who are there to game, and there are people there for other reasons.

I mean, Monument Valley was a perfect example.

But another example that we see a lot is if you were to ask the LLMs, what's the best Web3 game? They often will come up with Sky Mavis' Axie Infinity and The Sandbox.

Those games were launched in... 2017, 2018.

So they've been around for nine years.

I don't know.

I don't That game's not going to rank.

It's still going to be Axie Infinity in the sandbox because you're competing with hundreds of thousands of pieces of coverage between 2017 and really the crash of 2023.
