I mean, it'd be fair to say that a lot of people say, oh, Book of Mormon, this is religious, and maybe not into religion, but that's not what it's about, is it? I mean, it's a wonderful story involving wonderful characters.
N
53:35Nick CoxGUEST
Yeah, I would say the religious element, I mean, it definitely is a massive theme of it, but if anyone's like, oh, it's Mormonism, I'm not interested, I would... urge them to look up who the South Park writers are, because it's written by Matt and Trey from South Park, and then Bobby Lopez, who wrote Avenue Q, which is another hilarious musical, and he also wrote the music from Frozen.
N
53:54Nick CoxGUEST
So while there are these themes, there's just the chaos that kind of goes around them, and watching these two characters in particular navigate these things, and they're complete opposite temperaments and personalities.
N
54:08Nick CoxGUEST
So it's a lot more than just a religious musical, in fact, I'd say.

Of course, he wrote it in 1996 at the newly renamed Judi Dench Theatre.

For those of you who don't know or missed this update, it is currently the Shaftesbury Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue in the West End, right now home to the naughty puppets of Avenue Q, but it is set to be renamed in honour of the theatrical titan Dame Judi Dench, which incidentally I think is very positive and exciting and gives that theatre a more specific identity than the name Shaftesbury ever did.
M
2:31Mickey JoHOST
I am generally speaking in favour of theatres being named after individuals rather than abstract places and concepts.
M

Lyric Theatre, Lyceum Theatre, Apollo Theatre, we will get to you next.

However, hold your applause because it isn't really all that impressive an observation.
M
2:55Mickey JoHOST
It simply happens that one of the show's producers, Jamie Wilson, in an ongoing partnership with the American producer Kevin McCollum, has licensed the Shaftesbury Theatre for a decade, I believe.
M

Thus far, staging musicals there, including Mrs. Doubtfire, Just for One Day, and Avenue Q, there hasn't necessarily been a huge gargantuan hit.

These runs have been successful enough, but I'm curious to see whether The Notebook makes a sizable splash.
