Avengers Academy

So we're back to the list that starts off with the funeral and memorial of Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four number 588.

Spot number 13, we got Runaways number 3, and that is with superheroes fighting with Excelsior and failing... big time spot number 26 loners again number two reflex actions when johnny goes solo spot number 36 avengers academy number 28 homecoming part 2 that's the flashback episode spot number 49 young avengers number 12 a fight starts in central park and between Spot number 63, Bull Party! FF volume two, number nine.

And then spot number 82, Runaways number two, The Runaways Hunt Down Victor and Discover He Has Powers.

And all the way down spot number 110, man, this list is getting long.

We did see them in The Loners.

We saw them in Avengers.

Oh, was it Avengers Academy? It was Avengers.

Yeah, Avengers Arena.

I think that makes way, way more sense and would deserve the runway that a TV show could potentially give it.

I wonder if instead of a strange academy, if they do something like Avengers Academy and just broaden it out so you get that Avengers name in there.

Then that's a way of bringing in all of these characters who are not young Avengers anymore, have them as like instructors or TAs or whatever you want to call them where they're training the next generation of heroes or potentially being trained themselves.

Another possibility I want to just throw out that is sort of out of nowhere, and I don't think this is a TV idea, this is potentially a movie idea, but there's a great comic from back in the day called Avengers Arena, which is essentially Hunger Games with young Avengers-type characters.

It could work.

And again, maybe Marvel wants to send the herd.

yeah i was like that you know you blend in avengers academy with xavier institute right you have the danger room right you can do that with with uh ventures arena or something of that to make it just a little bit more i don't know

Tony, how did this book come about? I know you worked closely with editor Sarah Brunstad on this.

I'd be interested to hear about the process.

I know you've been keen to do a Young Avengers or Avengers Academy story of some sort for a long time.

And I was happy when you got to do this one.

I think sometimes if you're trying to take an existing character to make a sidekick, there is an absolute plethora of Marvel creations that they're doing nothing with that you could pour into something and actually make the character something.

I mean, we're talking like Avengers Academy had a whole shitload of characters.

Do you

remember Avengers Initiative? So you had Academy and Initiative, which you had literally 100 new characters.

[laughs]

Uh, in the case of Teen Titans Academy, 'cause there was an Avengers Academy as well.
