Fiat CEO Olivier Francois is stepping down after 15 years in charge of the Italian firm.

He had received the Autocar Editors Award just recently for the impact he'd made with Fiat.

And I think we'd all thought that Fiat were doing a great thing with bringing out the grandi pandi, focusing on smaller cars, that sort of stuff, and really shining a light on the stuff that We, particularly in this country, felt Fiat used to do really well.

But he is going to step down and he is going to be replaced by...

I'll try and find something a bit more obscure.

The trouble is with our listeners, they could probably have learned all of that.

And I will admit that I did forget that some of them ever existed.

For long stretches, the MX-5 used about 93% of throttle, actually the maximum opening possible, apparently.

And they were claiming that it wasn't necessarily SUVs and EVs that are causing the roads to deteriorate at the rate they are.

That said, according to Autocar here, over the past nine years, the mean average curb weight of new cars has increased by almost 400 kilos, from 1,553 kilos to 1,947 kilos.

And a lot of this, of course, is down to having to cart around battery packs and just vehicles getting bigger as well.

Um, uh, well, uh, well, I saw the thing on, you know, driver safety tech and is Tesla the best one.

Um, so maybe I am sorry.

Um, Volvo safety chief, Ossa Haglund, has been telling Autocar that systems are enabled by the computational power, but also pointed out that a key consideration in adding such situations...

It also added that a key consideration in adding such systems was to ensure that drivers are not overwhelmed by information and the warnings are trustworthy.

Interesting, yeah.

There's nothing new about that.

And I said, look, not being funny, Autocar, but Autocar's like the oldest car magazine going.

You're sort of, you know, you set the standard in my eyes for car reviews.

However, We're a year on and there's still no firm plans of bringing Cadillac back to the UK.

There's lots of talks about rapidly evolving marketplaces and other quotes are in this Autocar article.

I think what's happened is they've seen how the Chinese have stolen a march because they were going to come in with their EVs aiming at the likes of the premium market.

I think they've found that the Chinese are coming in below and now coming into the premium market, although question marks remain on how successful they'll be with that just at the moment, for the time being as well.

So this is called the Horse D20.

The way they've built it is incredibly clever.

There is an article from Autocar linked in the show notes where there's lots of lightweight materials being used and they don't use a heavy iron disc, which is apparently called a yoke when it comes to the stator.

It doesn't have the huge amount of electric coils.
