Brad HaddinGUEST
Yeah, I, I think he's performed at the right time.
Brad HaddinGUEST
He's, he's had a good season last year, um, i- in Big Bash a- and, and state cricket as well, but he hasn't played Australia A.
Adam PeacockHOST
Mm.
Brad HaddinGUEST
Like, he, he's, he's come in and performed right at the right time.

Adam PeacockHOST
Yeah.
Adam PeacockHOST
[laughs]
Alyssa HealyHOST
Um, I think Cape Town will end up not being as bad as what we think because Australia already beat 2-0 up.
Adam PeacockHOST
Won't happen.
Gideon HaighHOST
No
Peter LalorHOST
... who was not on the Australia A tour-
Gideon HaighHOST
No
Peter LalorHOST
...
Andrew MenczelGUEST
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
Andrew MenczelGUEST
And I think, you know, we've had, um, the ob- obviously the Australian team away, but we've also had the Australia A side away.
Andrew MenczelGUEST
So, you know, a lot of the best cricketers haven't been-
Matt GrubelichHOST
Yeah
K-ManHOST
He just got 100.
K-ManHOST
He, he saved Australia A in the tour game against India in India.
The DoctorHOST
Yeah, that's fair enough.
K-ManHOST
A Josh Inglis is injured with his fractured, um, finger or thumb.
The DoctorHOST
Mm
K-ManHOST
... and New South Wales not wanting to come to the party to franchise our domestic T20 cricket.
K-ManHOST
So, ah, there's a lot going on with Cricket Australia at the moment and, and not a lot of it is positive.
K-ManHOST
Uh, what I will say is Australia tend to play really well away from home.
Mark DuffieldHOST
The hierarchy say they respect Sheffield Shield cricket as a breeding ground for test match talent, but it must be said that actions speak louder than words and the actions here reek of a complete disregard for domestic class, first class cricket in Australia.
Mark DuffieldHOST
Hopefully, if someone is needed for test duty, Sam Harper, who had his best first-class season and good form for Australia A, will be the player drafted into the test team for what is going to be a very difficult test series against the South Africans.
Mark DuffieldHOST
Finally, fourth thought, the NRL Grand Final.
Mark DuffieldHOST
What a game.
Tom MorrisGUEST
I don't think McSweeney's far away.
Tom MorrisGUEST
He was captaining Australia A recently.
Tom MorrisGUEST
He's playing for Australia at the moment in India.
Tom MorrisGUEST
But M- Maddinson is a bolt from the blue.
Tom MorrisGUEST
Like, he hasn't played Shield cricket in 18 months.
Michael ClarkeHOST
Mate, it's gonna be a beauty, and Australia at the moment, w- [laughs] who are we taking? Who are we selecting? We're picking players that aren't playing Shield cricket.
Michael ClarkeHOST
We've turned our back on Australia A, certainly for one selection.
Michael ClarkeHOST
We've got injury concerns.
Michael ClarkeHOST
Um, look, it's gonna be a great series, but we're gonna have to be at our best.
6 MINS LATER
Erin HollandHOST
He hasn't played a first-class game for 18 months, and he played, what, three tests around 10 years ago, Pap.
Michael ClarkeHOST
Yep.
Erin HollandHOST
Uh, and he's in, and also Sam Harper, who's just been over there i- in India, in the India A tour with Australia A.
Erin HollandHOST
Made runs over there, and Sri saw him, uh, clo- close up-
Ken CunninghamHOST
I'm a little annoyed...
Ken CunninghamHOST
Some of the players that would normally play Sheffield Shield have got commitments with Australia A, so they won't be playing.
Ken CunninghamHOST
That denigrates the Sheffield Shield.
Sam TugwellHOST
I know what you're saying, but I think any honours... not just honours, but experience to play internationally, I think that trumps the shield.
KevinHOST
Whether he is the next best wicket keeper, uh, that concerns me.
KevinHOST
He scored a century for Australia A in India in the recent four-day game over there, which is great.
KevinHOST
Uh, so he's shown his batting ability.
KevinHOST
Now we know how Sam Harper bats.
KevinHOST
He's basically there to back up Alex Carey in case anything happens to him as a wicket keeper.
KevinHOST
And if that's the case, is he the next best gloveman in Australia? Uh, that's what concerns me.
KevinHOST
Josh Phillippe has shared that position with him in the Australia A team over there in India.
KevinHOST
Uh, he has been nominally the next keeper beyond Carey and Inglis, uh, that has been picked in Australia A games over the last couple of years.
Sam TugwellHOST
And there's blokes who are toiling and plying their trade as hard as they can.
Sam TugwellHOST
There's a group of 11 players that have been picked for Australia A in India playing as we speak, including players like Liam Scott and Jason Sanger, who are SA boys, and have won the Shield the last two years on the back of...
Sam TugwellHOST
Incredible grit and great form, and they get jumped over and overlooked.
Sam TugwellHOST
I can just...

Sam TugwellHOST
Let's get to your 6 o'clock news now.
Sam TugwellHOST
Next, on the other side of this news break, I'll tell you what.
Sam TugwellHOST
It's been a very, very hot topic across the day because Australia and their test selectors have decided to chuck in a name which nobody saw coming for the first test potentially against South Africa.
Sam TugwellHOST
We'll go through all that with Dan Tierney, who had the exclusive for Code Sports, next.
