Austin Country Club

We're getting towards the end here, Jake, but I really wanted to ask you just about your tournament experience, doing some volunteering and maybe any advice for people looking to get into some volunteering.

Oh yeah, so I was lucky enough, one of my good friends, superintendent at Austin Country Club, Bobby Stringer.

If you ever get him on the show, he could share some insight on stuff.

So Bobby was a super there.

I met him in 2009. where my super had taken me over there to go see his golf course.

And, you know, Austin Country Club is just a beautiful facility.

It's unbelievable.

Bobby's world-class superintendent.

And we are so happy.

It's a little bit late, but we've got Dale Morgan, the pro emeritus at Austin Country Club and part of the most recent class of the Texas Golf Hall of Fame.

And Dale is live from Laura Loma Country Club out on Lake Travis.

You were right.

I actually saw her yesterday and got to talk to her a little while, but yeah, I had Mark Harrison from North Texas got in, and Dave Feltz, the late Dave Feltz, got in, which was wonderful, and Colt Mills got in as the amateur and stacy lewis came in as the touring professional and so the club that got in was river oaks country club down in houston so it was a wonderful group of people and you know i couldn't have gone in with a better person it was absolutely fantastic

Well, Dale, talk a little bit for some of the very few of our listeners don't know about your history at Austin Country Club, but talk a little bit about it and some of the highlights of your career out there.

You followed Harvey Penick and Tinsley Penick and were only the third pro ever to serve at Austin Country Club.

But ended up going from there down to Austin for two days.

Played Austin Country Club, one of my favorite golf courses in Texas.

Um, ended up going to the Texas-Florida game.

Not great for the Horns.

And he'd just been totally lost after she had passed away.

And really, after she had died, he had spent a lot of nights just sitting alone at the Austin Country Club, where actually Celeste had been working as a waitress.

Celeste was only 30 years old at the time, which meant she was almost 40.

40 years younger than Steve, but there had been an immediate spark between them and they got married just over a year later.

Mm.

You go to Austin Country Club or any of these fancy clubs that are coming out, it's like you're here to be completely delighted.

And I think what you're working on and what we're trying to figure out is like, no, actually people sort of want to be needed.

Yeah.
