Audrey de Vos

Peter was born in Llandudno in 1920, and after serving in the Second World War, he returned to Oxford University studying philosophy, politics and economics.

At the start of the 1950s, he took ballet lessons with Audrey de Vos, who also taught Beryl Gray, then a ballerina of the Royal Ballet.

Peter and Beryl became friends, and this led him to the idea of making an educational film based on Swan Lake with Beryl and her partner John Field in the leading roles.

Peter's partner, Worden Anglin, said later that the seeds of Ballet for All were in that film.
