Attack Attack!

Yeah, yeah, early on in Beartooth, for sure.

And at this point in Attack Attack, I'm probably already making some of the Beartooth demos.

Mm.

And it wasn't Beartooth yet.

But, you know, anyone who can break through that barrier and make something cool and different, you know, those are the people I think that get remembered.

When you were in Attack Attack, did you guys see Crab Corps starting to become it? Like, did you know? It was

overnight, bro.

Genuinely, like we were playing these fucking shitty tours.

My friend sent me a video of he went to a show in Tokyo, and there is a Japanese Attack Attack cover band.

And the crowd was going wild to it.

Prada's from Dayton, so they would play there all the time.

Attack Attack was from Cleveland, so they would come down all the time and play.

And my mom was like, you're not going there.

And I'd be like, oh, come on, man.

I was listening to a lot of rap, probably like Mac Miller, just a lot of rappers.

But in middle school, I was listening to bands like Attack Attack.

Oh gosh, I don't even know.

I was listening to Breathe Carolina.

... yeah, the Attack Attack self-title I love to this day.

Dude, I mean, I rem- I remember g- like... 'Cause a lot of the bands I'd even cover back then were, was modern metalcore bands, right? [laughs] And that, that also wasn't a differentiator yet, right? Like it was like it was just metalcore.

Everything was metalcore, right? Which is, is tricky 'cause like you put a band like, uh, like an Invent Animate, and you're just like, "Well, they don't really sound like Killswitch," and they don't...

Like, that doesn't sound like Attack Attack either, and that also doesn't sound like Converge, [laughs] right? Like, and like a Spiritbox, right? Like, and, and you guys, like you guys were kind of paving your own way there with that new age, that new round of metal, metalcore, right? Um, that c- that came after, which you could hear all those influences you mentioned, which was really cool to see.

And I remember loving that.

The band gained popularity quickly and played one date on Warped Tour in 2007 and the entire tour the following year along with Bamboozle Left, which was the short-lived West Coast version of the very popular New Jersey festival.

They began touring with bands like Imeroso, who we just mentioned, All Time Low, who we will be talking about soon, Thursday, Four Year Strong, Attack Attack, who we mentioned on a prior episode, and A Day to Remember, who we will also be discussing soon.

Pierce the Veil turned out albums, they toured the world, oh, and they played Warped Tour again in 2012.

But in November of 2017, drummer Mike Fuentes was accused of statutory rape and of soliciting nude photos via AOL.
