So the High Court judge, Justice Andrew Kokuvite, has adjourned the case to 4th November 2026 to deliver a ruling on a bail application filed by former Ashanti Regional Minister, sorry, former Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Entri Busako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, pending appeal.

So the adjournment follows arguments by lawyers for Chairman Wontumi led by Samuel Atachia and the Deputy Attorney General, Dr.

Justice Surmsai, who represented the state.

Chairman Wontumi is serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted of permitting mining activities on his concession without approval from the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.

He's seeking temporary release while the challenges is heard in court and sentenced at the Court of Appeal.

So yesterday at the hearing, Atachia argued that the circumstances of the case warranted the grant of bail pending appeal.

According to him, Wontumi's temporary release would be essential to enable him to prepare his appeal and participate effectively in two other criminal cases he is facing.

He further maintained that Chairman Wontumi was not a flight risk, citing his compliance with previous bail conditions before his conviction.
