Assumption of Mary

So she calls me and she said, Jason, did you know that the Feast of the Assumption is like the biggest day of the year in Southern Lebanon? They traditionally have huge parties, but they've all been canceled.

I said, well, tell them to uncancel it and we'll fund it and we'll go there.

Yesterday we celebrated Our Lady of Sorrows on September the 13th, Our Lady of Farima, the Holy Virgin.

We just had the Feast of Our Lady of the Angels, which is for the dedication of the ,, the little church that he repaired in the plane under Assisi.

And then we're coming up on Our Lady of Assumption, which Our Lady of the Angels is a reference to the Assumption.

And then more to the characteristic Franciscan, you could say theological points, is the Immaculate Conception, which was called the Opinio Minorum for centuries.

Yeah.

And so that's, and you think like my particular community, we follow the perspectives of St. Maximilian on the Marian core of the Franciscan order.

And so associating the call for St. Francis to rebuild the church, then with sort of the Marian focus, both on the Assumption and on Immaculate Conception, is that the model after which the church is to be rebuilt is Our Lady, the Immaculate, the one who precedes the church in the journey of grace and is, I think Bonaventure says something like she is what the church is called to become.

And so that's something.

And St. Francis also has several prayers in his writings to Our Lady that are both very original and profound, have a very profound Trinitarian and incarnational perspective.

I really felt inspired.

About a month before, I said to my team, let's throw a Marian festival on the Feast of the Assumption in Lebanon.

I did not know that that was the biggest celebration of the year for Lebanese Christians.

Didn't even know that.

Each year, during Vespers on August 5th, a shower of jasmine leaves sifts down from the high dome of a chapel in Santa Maria Maggiore to commemorate the miraculous snow in August which marked out the spot where the church was to be built.

As they went along, de Sade turned the talk to the coming feast of the Assumption of Our Blessed Lady.

Stanislaus spoke with delight, as he always spoke of Our Lady.

When Our Lady entered Paradise, he said, I think God made a new glory for His Mother, and all the saints made a court about her, and did reverence to her as we do to a king.

Stanislaus had drawn St. Lawrence for his patron.

The feast of the saint is celebrated on August 10th.

Stanislaus, who had clear intimations of his quickly approaching death, and was eager to go to heaven, asked St. Lawrence to intercede for him that his homegoing might be on the feast of the Assumption.

He got permission to practice some penances in honor of the saint.
