Assassination

Conrad had seized one of their ships and wouldn't give it back.

It's simple, boring even, but if we apply Occam's razor, this assassination was most probably no more than a deadly escalation of a trade dispute.

Today, the Order of Assassins has passed into legend.

They're the stuff of novels and video games, fighting the good fight from the shadows.

And as a culture, we're fascinated with this kind of killing in the media we consume, even comfortable with it, as long as it's done stylishly.

Instead, it almost got him killed.

Within the space of 17 days in September 1975, Ford narrowly survived two assassination attempts.

The first was at the hands of a Manson cult member, Lynette Squeaky Fromme, who pointed a pistol at Ford but was tackled by the Secret Service.

The second call was closer.

And I'll give you one instance.

This is coming out of the John F. Kennedy assassination, where originally they said, oh, craze, lone nut assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, and then years later, the Senate Select Committee on Assassinations.

said, yeah, there had been multiple shooters and a conspiracy to kill President John F. Kennedy.

Now, on the Warren Commission, one of the people who sat on the Warren Commission was John J. McCloy, president of the Chase Manhattan Bank and president of the World Bank.

He has just published a book.

The title of the book is The Assassination of James Forrestal, and it was published May 21st, 2019.

And David is going to talk to us in detail about his position regarding the demise of the first, um, head of the Department of Defense right after World War II.

Uh, DC Dave is his website, dcdave.com.

Well, I'd like to wrap it up now, Dave.

We are at 50 minutes.

Again, the title of the book is The Assassination of James Forrestal, available now on Amazon.

And your website again is dcdave.com.

Right.

Ooh, assassination attempt.

Oh, dear.

It is an executable offense to attack any cadet while sleeping.
