Asbury Theological Seminary

The left usually has more time on their hands to sit around and do this important stuff.

Well, Asbury Seminary in Kentucky, very well-known seminary, President David Watson has made the announcement that they are withdrawing, voluntarily withdrawing from the federal student loan program.

And they are saying this just plunges students into debt.

And it also makes the college, anytime you tap into government money, you restrict somewhat what you can do and what you can say, how you can push back on woke DEI stuff.

It's called Healing Prayer, God's Idea for Restoring Body, Mind, and Spirit.

And it's a co-write with a Methodist author from the States, the past president of Asbury Seminary, Maxie Dunham.

Maxie was my mentor and now he's my peer.

And this is the first co-write he ever did in his life.

Uh, everything changes.

I remember, uh, all the way back in nine... excuse me, two thousand and five, uh, at Asbury Seminary, ministry comes in different seasons, uh, and I can see some seasonal changes having occurred in the past year.

But this was more about confession of sin.

It was more about, you know, being part of that corporate confession of faults, and it was recognizing that things are gonna change in some very unique ways.

So let me quickly introduce you for our listeners.

You are the professor of theology at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky.

and you're an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, and you've co-authored several books, written several articles.

You have a lot of content out there that people can learn from.

And years, as years passed, I felt, of course, the need to, uh, further my studies in, in preparation for raising a new generation of leaders, you know.

This, this, this got me, of course, to enroll for a PhD in Intercultural Studies, uh, uh, degree at Asbury Theological Seminary.

And at, at the time of, uh, giving this testimony, at, at the time of recording this, this is where I am, uh, now in my fourth year of study.

Uh, my passion, beloveds, my passion is really biblical preaching.

So how do the schools that you have in the Wesleyan Church compare to those two, for example?

Well, Asbury Seminary.

Actually, I taught as an adjunct for five years at Asbury Seminary.

in church society.

Yeah.

We referred to it in those days, women in third world.

I did women in church history and did all that.

But Asbury Seminary has always been one of our partner seminaries all along.

Today I'm delighted to be joined by Dr. Howard A. Snyder.

Howard is a Wesleyan theologian, a writer, and was a long-time professor amongst other places at Asbury Theological Seminary.

And his work centers on the kingdom of God as the heart of the Christian life.

Through many wonderful, influential books, he's called the church back to rediscover its identity as a spirit-formed community, shaped by holiness, mission, and the renewal of all creation in and under Christ.

And I really felt I was still in the moment, but then I was questioning myself.

Now, Professor Kina is a professor at Asbury Theological Seminary, and I literally wrote on my notebook, Now, aren't you aiming a little high, the devil speaking? But in the moment, I ask my question, is this me? Am I now bringing my desire in? Because I've heard him speak at one of the other speakers' conferences that has been very transformational to me, from Ken Fish, who will be also ministering at the conference, and he is amazing.

So I remember that moment.

I scribbled it in my notebook, even as a side note.

All this kind of crazy.

And I remember landing in my first full-time professorial role and So that's Asbury Theological, and they took my first professional picture, and they were really excited about the fact that they had a woman in biblical studies.

So they did an article about me, and that picture came up.

And Asbury Theological received hate mail because my upper arms were showing.

And the folks writing the letters couldn't fathom the profound compromise and mission drift that my upper arms represented.

Oh, my gosh.

And then make it equitable.
