Drones That See: Inside Modern Drone Vision Systems

Sharon SpielmanCORRESPONDENT
So why don't you talk a little bit about that? So the payload design, the weight distribution, and the vibration damping, how do all those impact the optical sensor performance and flight stability in the drones themselves? I mean, because, you know, a speaker as opposed to having to carry fire suppression are very different.

Arthur EricksonGUEST
And I should elaborate more on your last question about kind of how we do some of the processing.

Arthur EricksonGUEST
But it's a very fair point that vibrations are the enemy of clear visual data.

Sharon SpielmanCORRESPONDENT
So speaking of the orchestra, then the listener of the orchestra, which would be the people who buy the drones, are there any vetting processes? Okay, so can you talk a little bit about sensor fusion and how it is evolving in these systems to improve the situational intelligence accuracy and the robustness?

And your perspective on how drones can help in America's food security fight, so to speak, Arthur.

Arthur EricksonGUEST
I think the general view of drones is actually right, which is that these are precise tools, right? When you think drones, you think, okay, I can pinpoint target a certain thing, right? Because I've got this aerial intelligence in the form of a camera or scouting drone, and then I've got this relatively small flying device, the application drone itself, which can spray a specific area.

Arthur EricksonGUEST
But that concept is really the benefit that drones are allowing producers right now and operators in the space to extend their dollar further.

Arthur EricksonGUEST
Stretch the dollar further, literally get more for everything they put in, which is the name of the game right now with inputs, input costs, obviously skyrocketing, you could say, not just because of Iran and the Hormuz, but really, it's been a cascading situation since all the way back in, let's say, COVID, when there's a supply chain.

Jesse AllenHOST
I mean, talk about that angle of things, just considering where we are in the world of geopolitics and so much more right now, Arthur.
