Art Simone

And I can guarantee a gay old time.

My guest today is Art Simone.

Art is the Australian drag sensation who competed in season one of Drag Race Down Under and then went on to star and become runner up on Drag Race Down Under versus the world.

She has written two books, had her own hit podcast series and released some fabulous music.

She is a queen living her best life right now and loves using her voice to represent her own queerness.

Plus, she loves bingo and Kath and Kim, so she has exquisite taste.

Art Simone, welcome to a gay old time.

Oh, I'm having a gay old time and we haven't even started yet.

Yes, I am.

And my wife and I have seen the Kath and Kim drag parody with Art Simone.

Okay.

So you're big fans then?

We have had two drag queens on this show now.

We have you, Jimmy the Queen, and we also had Art Simone on for a Mardi Gras special last year.

Love her, adore her.

Queen, queen.

Double takes left in, ads that just cut in over the top of a conversation.

[laughs] Also, I don't think there is a depth of knowledge around topics that are very important to be clear on." [laughs] A couple of years ago we had a lot of negative reviews because there was this ad that was voiced by Art Simone, who's a drag performer, and basically there was an error on our network's behalf where it just kept playing.

Like, we actually-

Yeah, it wasn't meant to

... didn't get paid anything for it.

It w- it was a, a full mistake.

And just, like, out of nowhere this fucking ad would cut in, and it was like, "I am Art Simone," and everyone was just like, "Could you stop playing that fucking ad?" And we're like, "I didn't even know what's happening here." Like, we were like, "Surely that ad's run out by now." But yeah, I mean, I think we should've got paid for that because, I mean, it clearly got in people's heads.

I mean, I felt like we were owed something because we got all these negative reviews, and it was not our fault at all.
