Art Gallery of Ontario

I want to give an etiquette salute to a random stranger here in Toronto.

Earlier this summer, my mom and I were leaving the Art Gallery of Ontario with my two toddlers.

It was raining, and we needed to walk back to the car, but we only had one adult umbrella and one toddler umbrella.

My mom and I didn't really mind getting wet, but of course the kids hated the rain, had no real skill with the umbrella, and of course only wanted mama mama and not grandma.

You may know the great Melissa Oftemauer best as the bass player for Hole and the Smashing Pumpkins, but the mystical Montrealer got her start in photography and has returned as your archivist, your documentarian of the last years of analog and the pre-corporate takeover of rock and roll, showing you years 1991 to 2001 through her own personal lens.

A companion piece to her memoir is out September 8th with the accompanying exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario called My 90s Rock Photographs.

And it opens September 9th.

I personally think that it's pretty great that we have a prime minister who is so well connected globally, that we now have such an extraordinary group of people with such extraordinary capability financially, economically, and frankly, also politically, um, all gathered in Toronto.

The fact that they all had dinner at the, our Art Gallery of Ontario.

I love the AGO, by the way, so I, I thought that was pretty cool.

Um, I, I think it's f- I think it's actually really impressive.

How are you? I'm just walking along, uh, Queen Street here in, uh, downtown Toronto.

Uh, this protest that started in front of Toronto City Hall at Nathan Phillips Square is now moving along Queen Street towards, uh, the AGO, uh, to, in the words of, uh, one of the speakers that we just heard from, uh, to crash- Prime Minister Carney's, uh, dinner party that's taking place right now at the Art Gallery of Ontario.

This protest has been going on, uh, for a- about a little more than an hour now.

Uh, to be frank, we've heard a number of different grievances about a number, uh, uh, of different topics, everything from divesting in fossil fuels to, uh, to the situation, uh, uh, in, in Israel.

More than a thousand demonstrators gathered in downtown Toronto protesting an investment summit organized by Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The protest began outside Toronto City Hall and started walking towards the Art Gallery of Ontario, where a gala dinner tied to the Canadian Investment Summit took place.

There was large police presence, including officers on horseback and police with helmets.
