ChadHOST
4:45
I remember renting that one.
HawkHOST
4:47
Yeah, now, since I'm kind of like rebuy, or not rebuy, but buying Blu-rays again on a limited basis, I was looking up that and that has a sweet Arrow video release.
HawkHOST
4:58
That's what's been happening since I haven't been collecting is Arrow video has been releasing a lot of these 90s thrillers.
ChadHOST
5:05
Falling Down, Long Kiss Goodnight.
ChadHOST
5:07
They got The Last Boy

10 MINS LATER

HawkHOST
15:02
That's great.
HawkHOST
15:03
I've actually seen a shockingly good amount of his films.
HawkHOST
15:09
Like he started off with De Palma because I got that Arrow video set.
Dave ParkerHOST
13:26
Well, more so kind of like assassination attempts at big companies and things like that.
Dave ParkerHOST
13:31
Okay, we're going to start this box set here from Arrow Video.
Dave ParkerHOST
13:33
Now, we're only covering the first movie in here.
Dave ParkerHOST
13:35
This is Enter the Video Store, kind of similar to the Empire Pictures one they put out, which was a great set here.
Dave ParkerHOST
18:12
Lebanon in California, brand new interview with director of photography Mark Morris.
Dave ParkerHOST
18:16
Apocalypse Senate, an appreciation of the Vietnam veteran genre by Douglas E.
Dave ParkerHOST
18:21
Winter, filmed exclusively for Arrow Video in 2026.
Dave ParkerHOST
18:25
I think I remember him talking about basically the different reasons for going into Vietnam and all this kind of stuff like that.
Gary C WarrenHOST
0:00
Hey everybody, today on Gary Talks Physical Media, I'm going to look at the brand new 4K release of Arrow Video's transfer of The Frighteners.
Gary C WarrenHOST
0:15
I still remember the day I turned 21.
Gary C WarrenHOST
0:18
Now, I don't remember a whole lot about that night that I actually turned 21 as my buddies took me out to the bars at like midnight and, you know, tried to kill me.

5 MINS LATER

Gary C WarrenHOST
5:42
And Peter Jackson loves his bonus features.
Gary C WarrenHOST
5:44
Those of you who have seen, you know, the versions of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit that he'll do these nine-hour documentaries on, that's kind of what it feels like just on a much smaller scale.
Gary C WarrenHOST
5:56
So for this release by Arrow Video...
Gary C WarrenHOST
6:00
I gotta give the film an A. I give the transfer an A. I give the bonus features, I'll give them a B just because they're not brand new for this release.
Gary C WarrenHOST
6:10
So all in all, I give Arrow Video's 4K release of The Frighteners an A-.
Adam LongHOST
32:05
I think that one's from 1978.
Adam LongHOST
32:08
And Arrow Video actually released that one on Blu-ray.
Adam LongHOST
32:11
I don't have the actual release date on that one.
Adam LongHOST
32:14
But, again, both of those films are obviously inspired by Carrie.

7 MINS LATER

Adam LongHOST
39:34
They weren't doing the ABC movie of the week at that point, but they were still doing some TV films from time to time.
Adam LongHOST
39:39
I remember this being a pretty decent... vampire film, although not nearly as good as the last one from the 70s I'm going to talk about, which was Salem's Lot, which aired November 17, 1979.
Adam LongHOST
39:49
That just got a 4K Ultra HD release this year from Arrow Video, and I saw this on its original airing, and I remember at the end of the first two hours, which it aired...
Adam LongHOST
40:01
Most TV movies back then would air back-to-back on two consecutive nights.
Travis SetoPANELIST
40:20
Ross, though, I mean, I was introduced to him a few years back.
Travis SetoPANELIST
40:26
The Arrow Video, which is a Blu-ray label, for those of you who don't know, they put out a box set of his films a few years back, and they have a streaming channel.
Travis SetoPANELIST
40:37
I don't know if that still exists or not.
Travis SetoPANELIST
40:39
I was subscribing to it for a while, though, and they had all his movies on there.
Jake BostonHOST
24:28
Really enjoyed me some Someone's Watching Me, and yeah, I guess the rest of these, I need to stop saying I recommend this because these next four in particular, I guess the top 10 all over are ones that I would super duper recommend if you haven't seen any.
Jake BostonHOST
24:44
My number four, I'm very happy, got a big beefy box set from Arrow Video.
Jake BostonHOST
24:49
Such a cane.
Jake BostonHOST
24:50
Speaking of Sam Neill, we have In the Mouth of Madness at number four.
Stuart RathjeHOST
1:55
It's a
KenPANELIST
1:55
bit more, yeah, there's some more stuff that was censored out of the original theatrical cut, like, uh, and it's also available in, uh, European re or region two as a region to release from arrow video.
KenPANELIST
2:07
I've heard some talk that, that the festival cut is a bit more complete than the one that's on the shout factory release, but, Again, I can't substantiate that, but there are many sources on the internet that can probably tell you more.
KenPANELIST
2:20
This film was originally released in 1990 through Golden Princess Film Distribution, of course, which is the outfit back in the late 80s, early 90s that released a lot of John Woo's output and also Troy Hawk and other directors.

1 HR 5 MINS LATER

KenPANELIST
67:24
Yeah, it must have been, as you say, it must have been a task just to bring all these elements together, especially during the raid on the Viet Cong prison camp.
KenPANELIST
67:35
So my final score, 7.5 out of 10.
KenPANELIST
67:37
Fans of this film, they may want to check into looking, I think I mentioned before about the Arrow video, U8 4K version.
KenPANELIST
67:48
I I've read that it has a more complete version of the festival cut, but I think the way the rights work with the physical media release shout factory has the North American rights, but arrow video has the European rights.
MattHOST
23:21
So we'll talk about movies that have been released from Criterion.
MattHOST
23:25
There's also Arrow Video, which I think tries to be like Criterion, but do not.
MattHOST
23:31
I feel like sometimes I have bought a movie sight unseen from Criterion, but it sounds kind of good.
MattHOST
23:38
And I trust Criterion, right? I have learned my lesson with Arrow video because there have been movies that have sounded good, and I've bought them sight unseen with Arrow, and it's like many times have I felt burned.
MattHOST
23:52
But anyway, Criterion has long had this little thing they do called the Criterion Closet, which is, I mean, seriously, like a closet-sized space where it's like three walls lined with their DVDs.
MattHOST
24:04
And they even had a mobile one that...
MattHOST
24:07
Went around the country for a while, I don't know, a few months or a year ago.
MattHOST
24:12
And they'll have celebrities come in and spend about five minutes pulling, you know, Blu-rays from the library and talking about it.
Scott RockfileHOST
0:29
There's a brand new 4K edition from Toy Robot Video.
Scott RockfileHOST
0:32
Toy Robot is a new line from Arrow Video to complement their more, quote unquote, serious movies.
Scott RockfileHOST
0:40
They're going to do some more lighthearted things.
Scott RockfileHOST
0:42
And the movies all come with slipcovers and this OB strip that's really cool, and it all kind of matches.
TimHOST
27:37
she used to shove cocaine up her butt, but
StephenHOST
27:39
dude, there's, there's some, I watched, uh, I think it was like from the arrow video release of vamp.
StephenHOST
27:45
Um, but I watched like one of the producers talking about like the making of the movie and, and dealing with grace Jones.
StephenHOST
27:52
And, uh, yeah there is she was like never on time for set and like at one point they're like all right we're gonna film and she's in paris you know and like all this crazy like she just you know you couldn't keep her you couldn't rely on her because her life was so eccentric and you know she's like i'm a fashion icon i'm gonna do what i'm gonna do And she was like, this movie's like, all right, well, we got Grace Jones.
