Also ahead, two weeks on from the catastrophic flash flood in Nepal, rescuers remain hopeful that some of the hundreds of workers trapped inside the mud-covered hydropower tunnels are still alive.

Australian tunneling expert Arnold Dix could be their best hope.

He joins me from Kathmandu.

And speaking of defying death in the depths, diver Chris Lemons has an incredible story to tell.

So far, three workers have been rescued from different tunnels in the disaster area.

The biggest focus right now is on the Chile May Power Plant, in part because there was a canteen and accommodation inside this plant, offering a good chance of nourishment and therefore perhaps survival.

He's working with local teams to try and help locate potential survival possibilities.

Can you just talk about what it's like to be trapped in a tunnel?

The blackness of being trapped in a tunnel is unlike anything you'll experience as a human being.

Around 50 Australian personnel have been deployed to support the disaster response.

Professor Arnold Dix is a tunnel rescue expert.

He's working as part of the mission to free workers potentially trapped in hydropower tunnels across the affected region, looking after a remote site called Chilimi.

The team at this particular site are the same team that we worked together on the Silk Yara rescue in India in 23.

This is like doing another gig.

We don't know, of course, what the future holds, but if there are people alive in there, we're going to find them and bring them home.

The workers have been identified as a mechanical foreman and a mechanical supervisor who were working in the Trishuli 3A tunnel when they became trapped as flash floods hit Nepal and Tibet more than a week ago.

Australian geologist Arnold Dix has told NDTV work is continuing to rescue more workers believed to be alive and trapped in the tunnel.

I'm part of that team and we have been relentless in saying we've got a rescue mission.

We'd identified what we were calling Goldilocks zones where we thought people could have survived.
