An article in Blazers Edge, a Blazers news blog and community site owned by sports media conglomerate SB Nation, pointed out how multiple other arenas across the US have seen record profits after losing their anchor tenant.

The Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, lost the NHL's Arizona Coyotes in twenty twenty-two.

In the year after, according to Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps, the arena broke its revenue record by nearly ten million dollars.

After the Golden State Warriors left the Oakland Arena in twenty nineteen, it had its best fiscal year ever in twenty twenty-three and reduced its operating deficit by ninety-seven percent over the four years.

And KeyArena, once hosting the Seattle SuperSonics, a team referenced heavily by supporters of a Blazers subsidy, operated at a loss under the NBA team, according to Blazers Edge.

But it turned a bigger profit than ever after they left by, quote, "freeing up the stadium revenue the sports teams were hoarding for themselves," unquote.

I have to emphasize, even with mountains of evidence, reporting on this deal in Portland has felt like a truly Sisyphussian task with the sheer volume of misinformation being thrown out by our own elected officials and, at times, the media.
