Pete MackintoshGUEST
47:22
Well, that cast strength preference.
Pete MackintoshGUEST
47:25
Yeah, like we want to make something, the whole thing is to make something that we want to drink, that we want to go, you know, instead of drinking the Ardbeg, let's drink ours.
Pete MackintoshGUEST
47:32
Like I said, that's not going to happen.
Pete MackintoshGUEST
47:34
I don't think Ardbeg is exceptional.
Pete MackintoshGUEST
47:36
Like for us, that is... or even Brookladic, that is something that we just love.
Pete MackintoshGUEST
47:41
But if we can make something similar, which is where we've gone, we sort of aim for with this Peter, is to go for that style.
Dan MershVOICE_ACTOR
3:42
I'm joined by a nice glass of whiskey.
Dan MershVOICE_ACTOR
3:46
It's a 10-year-old Ardbeg, if you must know.
Dan MershVOICE_ACTOR
3:48
What's up with that? All kinds of stuff.
Dan MershVOICE_ACTOR
3:53
And it's very, very pleasant.
ColeHOST
40:32
Really? I'm thinking like 10-ish.
ColeHOST
40:34
Like Laphroaig 10, Ardbeg 10, McAllen 12.
ColeHOST
40:37
You know, like these things where you're seeing like that's low end for the bigger distilleries.
ColeHOST
40:44
Yeah, there are sixes and minimum you gotta do three years in Scotland.
AndrewHOST
13:44
Yeah, it almost reminds me, obviously not to the same extent of those whiskeys, but there's a little Isla element, like this kind of honey, sea spray, smoky iodine.
AndrewHOST
13:54
Obviously not to the extent of a Lagavulin or Ardbeg or something like that, but...
AndrewHOST
13:59
There's a cool savory element I really like.
AndrewHOST
14:02
I know Ardbeg.
AndrewHOST
14:03
I love Ardbeg.
AndrewHOST
14:04
I don't really drink a lot of spirits, but I love Petey whiskey.
CodyHOST
14:07
Yeah, it's definitely a shocker when you find yourself at a gathering as a young man cultivating his palate to spirits and alcohol.
CourtHOST
39:55
Malart over there? Isn't that what that K bottle is over there? No.
ChrisHOST
39:59
That's Ardberg.
ChrisHOST
40:00
Oh.
ChrisHOST
40:01
Somebody brought Malart to us.
Luke McCarthyHOST
29:50
And it followed some very heavily peated Islay malts.
Luke McCarthyHOST
29:55
Ardbeg, I think, was there.
Luke McCarthyHOST
29:57
Who else was there? There was another Islay malt, which I can't remember now.
Luke McCarthyHOST
29:59
There was a few whiskeys that day.
BobbyHOST
53:05
No, it came as single boxes.
BobbyHOST
53:09
An Ardbeg 25, that case comes in a box that comes in a box that comes in a box.
BobbyHOST
53:17
That's it.
BobbyHOST
53:18
It's multi-packaged so that it can't get screwed up.

23 MINS LATER

MattGUEST
76:23
Coming from the guy
ScottGUEST
76:24
named Big Four.
BobbyHOST
76:26
I like saying with the Ardbeg stuff, you know, they put out, they went from a committee release a year to multiples.
ScottGUEST
76:32
And it's like, I think they oversaturated their own market.
Toby YoungGUEST
16:20
Global Scotch exports fell by 4.3% in 2025, with single malts hit even harder.
Toby YoungGUEST
16:27
Glen Goyne and Rosebank, two mainland brands, have cut production by 30%, while LVMH has halted production at Glenmorangie, although not at Ardberg in Islay.
Toby YoungGUEST
16:38
But it's not all doom and gloom.
Toby YoungGUEST
16:40
Demand for whisky in India is booming, and two British entrepreneurs of Indian heritage are building a distillery on Islay.
Toby YoungGUEST
18:06
It's of a piece with the austere, uncompromising landscape and the abundant local wildlife, including seals and otters.
Toby YoungGUEST
18:14
On a long walk on Saturday, I bent over a fast-flowing stream to scoop up water with my hands and it had the same peaty taste as the local whisky.
Toby YoungGUEST
18:22
I was told to bottle some and then have a splash of it with some 16-year-old Ardberg that evening.
Toby YoungGUEST
18:28
It didn't disappoint.
Brendan McCarronGUEST
57:21
And then after these four interviews...
Brendan McCarronGUEST
57:23
Actually, to tell a lie, we actually interviewed a bit where they were saying, well, what we're thinking is we're going to place someone up at Glenmorangie for a couple of years and then someone at Ardbeg for a couple of years.
Brendan McCarronGUEST
57:31
Then we'll put them into this bit for a couple of years to learn that.
Brendan McCarronGUEST
57:34
And I was just like, I was like, do you know what? That isn't me because I can do all of that.
Brendan McCarronGUEST
57:39
There's no point.
Brendan McCarronGUEST
57:40
I've ran bigger distilleries and I've ran this and I've ran smoky distilleries on Islay.
Brendan McCarronGUEST
57:45
It's like, my God, I supplied Ardbeg for three years with the malt that they use.
Brendan McCarronGUEST
57:50
So we all kind of shook hands on it and agreed that it was nice to chat to you and best of luck but then it was like a couple of months later that they got back in touch and they went can you come back in for another chat and they'd made up like a different role and actually even as we were talking it was more of a conversation than an interview but they were like that kind of isn't it either is it and I was like it's cool sir but no they
Rickesh KishnaniHOST
53:02
But there was a period, this is distilled in 2009.
Rickesh KishnaniHOST
53:05
Way back in 2009, when Edrington still owned Glen Turret, they needed some peaty whiskey because Ardbeg, who was their supplier for their blend that they make, the Edrington blend that they make, um wasn't available those years or whatever happened they basically shut the distillery down and turned it into making pd whiskey for a couple of years so this always makes sherry whiskey like what we've been having um and i think we'll continue to make sherry whiskey going forward but this is a flashback to a period in time where they made a bit of pd whiskey so it's a bit unique
Alex SchultzGUEST
53:41
It is certainly unique.
Alex SchultzGUEST
53:43
It really is strong.
