Architectural Digest

So how is GQ, uh, as a brand and a business, like, what's it been like for them over- The last five, six years.

I mean, has it followed the trajectory of most other Condé Nast brands? Have they adapted to the ways of the internet, like Architectural Digest? Uh, uh, is it still thick? Uh, do people know what it is? Tell me about how it's been going there.

So when Will Welch became the editor, I believe in 2018, he succeeded Jim Nelson.

What are you gonna do on the plane?

I am gonna read the newspaper, and then I stole, uh, an Architectural Digest magazine-

Ooh

... from the hotel.

Mm-hmm

... um, was bought by a family, the Hoff family that lives in Ann Arbor, and he is one of the co-founders of Floyd Furniture, and their home was featured in Architectural Digest.

And so my, I got an email last, like, January, and I had, the crazy thing was, and you know, this is obviously not related now knowing the backstory of how it all came to be, but I had just sub- like, become a paid subscriber to Architectural Digest magazine over Christmas 'cause I was like, "This is my gift to myself.

I-

Yeah

... got a subscription." And then a month later they emailed me to, asking me for a credit line, and I was like, "Oh my God, what is this?" [laughs] I was like, "I literally just became a subscriber," and now I, I feel like it was a woo-woo moment.

But so their home was featured in Architectural Digest, and they have a huge 36 by 48 beach painting of mine that hangs in their really cool mid-century modern home in their living room.

Um, so that was really, that just felt like a very validating- I feel like it's, you're always trying to, at least me, I'm, you're always, I'm always, you know, trying not to look for external validation with my art and just, like, be...

Since founding his namesake studio in 2013, Sean Anderson has grown into offices in both Memphis and New York.

His work has been featured in Architectural Digest, El Decor, Milieu, Garden and Gun, and Departures.

He's also been named to the First Stibs 50 and the Wallpaper 400.

And this fall, he's releasing his debut monograph with Rizzoli, Interior Narratives, with a forward by architect Jeffrey Dungan, text by Sam Cochran, and photography by his longtime collaborator, Harris Kenjar.

Totally.

It was so funny because I was watching Netflix the other day and there was this show from Architectural Digest.

And it's like these mini episodes where celebrities take you on tours of their home.

And there's a celebrity.

Yeah.

Who doesn't? I once saw an Architectural Digest-

I feel like I'm doing one of those architecture.

I was thinking coming into this is it's a bit like Architectural Digest inside my house, but for like a nepo baby creative who's 26.

He's doing great work and just wanted to recognize him for winning that Emergency Vehicle Technician of the Year.

The other thing that was sort of interesting in the past week is that the Architectural Digest named Lawrence the prettiest city in northeast Kansas.

That's a nice little win.
