The gathering also includes the Collins' business partner, Joe Boyce, and his wife, Georgia, as personal and business tensions come to the surface.

[gentle music] Gloria Kent asks Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin to recover the $10,000 her father spent on what appears to be a fraudulent treasure map.

The request leads through old family correspondence, a pair of confidence men, and document expert Ben Sanford in the premiere, episode one, of NBC's The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe.

Originally broadcast October 20th, 1950, it stars Sydney Greenstreet as Wolfe and Wally Maher as Archie Goodwin.

Alfred Bester wrote the script.

And now our story begins.

What in the devil? [footsteps thudding] He's dead.

His throat's cut.

And in late middle age, he, his, uh, adult daughter, who's in her late 20s, uh, takes up with a, uh, a much older, uh, one-time, uh, famous novelist.

And then a murder occurs, and Scott finds himself, uh, playing amateur detective, but in a, in an odd way.

He's not so much looking for who did it as much as he's trying to protect his family, uh, from being, uh, family members from being, uh, the major suspects.

Okay.

And in this book, um, he's returned to his work.

Lots has happened because of the ramifications of his actions in the first novel.

Um, and here he teams up with the New York Police Department detective who actually investigated him and his family members in that first murder.

Mm-hmm.

On December 15th, 1950, NBC brought listeners episode nine of the New Adventures of Nero Wolfe.

Sydney Greenstreet stars as Wolfe, with Lawrence Dobkin as Archie Goodwin, in "The Girl Who Cried Wolfe." Mary Dunning, secretary to the missing executive director of an ecological foundation, comes to Wolfe's New York brownstone for help.

Wolfe doubts her account at first, while Archie finds the disappearance leading them into the affairs of the foundation and those around its leadership.
