Initially, when we rolled out Yellow Bird, we do trainings and surveys and all kinds of things, very specialized.
Michael ZalleHOST

So we could do an arc flash, or we could do a forklift or all sorts of things, but that's not the point.
Michael ZalleHOST
30:29
I did not want to do a train the trainer program.
Michael ZalleHOST
30:33
Because I felt like it would frankly capitalize, or it would eat up on our ability to sell other services.
Michael ZalleHOST

They'll only do what they feel comfortable that they can do, and they'll still utilize us, like for a specialty training.

Arc Flash is not something you're ever gonna get a superintendent to be the trainer on.

But something like lockout tagout, well, maybe, because it's so vitally important, particularly [laughs] for an electrical contractor.

What absolutely blew my mind when I was getting into the 70B conversation was one of our engineers actually did a kind of hypothetical arc flash calculation and did it in three stages, right? So we had a service breaker, a feeder breaker, and then a local breaker.

And when everything worked right, incident energy was at like 0.36 calories but when you started having effects from a lack of maintaining that those circuit breakers and you start to have this thing where the circuit breaker won't open the arcing fault well now all of a sudden that incident energy number one from one point or 0.36 to 1.78 still not a huge increase but what absolutely rock rocked my understanding of this stuff is when both of the local breaker the feeder and the local breaker fail and it goes back to that service breaker because of the clearing added clearing time in there the incident energy went up to 49 calories per square centimeter and so now what what the sticker's telling me is it's under 1.2 i don't really need any any ppe for that but if i haven't maintained my equipment i might be in a situation where it's above 40.

Why is that a thing we have to have a conversation about? Why can't we get to a year where we have zero people getting killed from electrical hazards? And to me, that's my biggest question I want to answer.
Derek VigstolGUEST
15:46
And now, as kind of a realist, I think there's always the possibility of having accidents where you touch something that's energized and you just didn't know it was energized.
Derek VigstolGUEST
15:57
But from actually doing energized work, we shouldn't be having conversations about people getting blown up in Arc Flash events because they were working on something energized and then they weren't wearing the right PPE.
Derek VigstolGUEST

We can get that message out there.

And anybody that wants to jump into the party and help me spread that message, they're automatically a friend of mine.
