Ararat

At 9am on Tuesday the 20th of October, 40 police vehicles and more than 100 officers, including port and arrest vans, raided the camp where a Jabbarung law keeper and supporters were gathered to defend sacred trees from destruction by Vida as part of its western highway expansion.

The camp is on sacred women's land, on Djabwarung land, located alongside the Western Highway just outside of Ararat.

This is a site of vast cultural significance to the Djabwarung peoples.

It is a site of centuries-old birthing trees, including the grandmother tree where many generations of Djabwarung women gave birth.

That is very much the Vic Rhodes mentality at the moment, because yesterday they managed to destroy a sacred tree.

Oh yes, at near Ararat.
