Aran jumper

I got a Irish wool sweater.

It's an Aran sweater, A-R-A-N, made by Traditional Irish Wool.

And after visiting that farm and hearing that wool is not selling like it used to, I was like, well...

I'm going to do my part.

That's there no longer.

Even the beautiful sweaters in Inishmaan, the Aran sweaters, who I'm currently talking to, that they're making.

They're importing the yarns because the sheep that come from Ireland aren't soft enough.

You know, it's not a beautiful Merino type of wool that you would use for sweaters.

Hence, Aran sweaters are, are quite scratchy.

But anyway, kinda trying to focus on this thing that would set us apart led me to working more with French lace because in France they have protected these industries.

Mm-hmm.

The Irish equivalent of that is the Bourneen.

So a hand-knit Aran sweater is

the only

thing.

And every Thursday... my dad and the rest of the family would parcel up the wool and send it to the knitters.

And by the following Thursday, that wool would come back as a finished Aran sweater.

I'm absolutely gobsmacked by

that.

And when Carrick Dunn opened first in Westport, Porrick Hughes bought his Aran sweaters from us.

And we put the Carrick Dunn label on them.

And when he opened his shop in the Aran Islands...

We also supplied them at that stage, when we were the first ones supplying with iron sweaters.

And I love it.

And I was thinking, I have some other like worsted Aran cotton yarn in my stash.

I think, why don't I just make another one of these? And here we are.

So I had in my stash Baroco Remix in colorway 3922, which is a buttercup.

I ran out to Michael's one day and got a skein of Lion Brand Made With Love, the cotton one, that's what it's called, in the red, red wine colorway, which is not red, red or wine.

It's like a dusty, blushy pink.

It's a 60-40 cotton acrylic Aran weight yarn.

And I just took an H hook and I chained 36, which was about the width that I thought I wanted.
