Jim Aparo began his career in advertising, but he met Dick Giordano in 1966, who offered him work at Charlton Comics.

And then when Giordano left Charlton to become editor at DC, Giordano offered Aparo a job penciling Aquaman, which, well, he took.

And he alternated with penciling The Phantom from Charlton with penciling Aquaman because both books came out on a bimonthly basis, so he could do one and then the other.
