Apsara

The gods would sing.

The Apsaras would dance.

And Vaishravana would travel back to his parents' hermitage.

There, despite all his wealth and power, he remained a devoted son.

divya-sragambharāle pratnābharaṇa-bhūṣitā dhanuḥ-śūleṣu carmāsi śaṅkha-cakra-gadā-dharā siddha-cāraṇ-gandharvair apsarāḥ kinnaroragaih upahṛtoru bali bhīḥ stūyamāne dambravīt kin mayāhatayā manda-jāt khalu tavānta-kṛt yatra kv vā pūrva-ṣatrumā hiṁsi kṛpaṇān vṛttiṁ nevataḥ "The goddess Durga was decorated with flower garlands, smeared with sandalwood pulp, and dressed with excellent garments and ornaments made of valuable jewels.

Holding in her hands a bow, a trident, arrows, a shield, a sword, a conch shell, a disc and a club, and being praised by celestial beings like Apsaras, Kinnaras, Uragas, Siddhas, Charanas, and Gandharvas, who worshiped her with all kinds of presentations, she spoke as follows: 'O Kamsa, you fool, what will be the use of killing me? The Supreme Personality of Godhead, who has been your enemy from the very beginning and who will certainly kill you, has already taken His birth somewhere else.

Therefore, do not unnecessarily kill other children.'" Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, 10.4.12.

Have you noticed the similarities between Hari-kathā and ordinary storytelling? You might even say that modern day video games resemble tales from the epics such as Mahabharata and Ramayana.

They were not worried about these people sitting and watching.

It is said that Apsaras come and take a bath.

Gods and goddesses come and take a bath.

And then next day repeat show.

So the second page will be the Aditya Hora, and that has the Gintarvas and the Rakshasas.

And then the third page is the Naga Hora, which has the Yakshas and the Apsaras.

And then, of course, the third page is the Rishi, and that actually spans both Horas, so that sort of doesn't fit the pattern.

That's okay, so each page shows the beings that are activated right now.

One thing is that they're assigned to planets originally, but in the Aditya system, we talk about beings.

So each of the being types is associated with a certain planet.

So Mars is associated with Guntarvas, Saturn with Rakshasas, Jupiter with Rishis, Yukshasas with Mercury, and Apsaras with Venus.

So the Gintaras and the Rakshasas, Mars and Saturn, are all in the Sun Hora.

Yeah, that's a good way to put it.

And it reflected these frescoes of what the text calls Apsara ladies.

For context, Apsaras are celestial singers and dancers in Hindu and Buddhist mythology.

So the king is literally surrounding himself with floating celestial beings.

Which tells us everything we need to know about the function of Siguria.

This is also one of the Apsaras.

Among the Apsaras, generally you hear the name of Urvashi.

But there is Purva Chatti, who is Krishna's Vibhuti.

And Bhudharanam Ahamstharia, among the mountains I am the stability.
