APRA Awards

It's a 1999 Australian film starring Heath Ledger and Rose Byrne.

And the score is by Cezary Skubiszewski, and it won him an APRA Music Award for Best Film Score.

He has won lots of prizes since then, 11 awards for film, television, and documentary, and he is being presented this year with the Distinguished Services to the Australian Screen Award at the APRA Music Awards ceremony on the 28th of October.

So today on The Music Show, we're gonna be talking to Cesary about his life and times and his career in screen music, and how you build tension in bank robberies, and how you draw on the time signature of a pigeon's coo, and how you make children cry.

Five ARIA number one albums, 18 ARIA Awards, and three APRA Awards, including t- two for Song of the Year.

Yeah.

They're hitting the road in a stadium-sized big top, so not exactly-

And I remember being so excited to hear you get up and speak after you're inducted.

And I remember thinking, God, I wonder what she's going to say because one of my favourite things about the APRA Awards is your opening address.

So how did you tackle what you were going to say in that moment? Did it feel very big until you came down to it? It was a

really hard speech to write and I've done a few by now.

I sang-- I had to sing at, there's a video of this on the internet, actually.

I had to sing at the, um, the Australian, we have this organization called APRA that basically represents songwriters, and I was singing at the APRA Awards.

This must've been 2018 that this happened.

So I think the surgery was maybe, like, January or February, and then I was singing in April maybe or May.
