Tim ChatenHOST
79:27
But the Duo is like, this is the best iPad Mini that you'll get because it's me.
Tim ChatenHOST
79:33
The 3000 nits and the nanotexture and the A20 Pro, like Apple Pencil.
Tim ChatenHOST
79:39
It seems like...
Tim ChatenHOST
79:41
This Mini will be waterproof.

Riley HillGUEST
87:13
think? Oh.
Riley HillGUEST
87:17
Hmm.
Riley HillGUEST
87:17
Does it get an A20 Pro chip? I think it's...
Riley HillGUEST
87:22
No, I think it's going to be an 820.

Inside the iPhone 18 Pro, things become more exciting.
Wayne LambSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
5:38
Apple's introduced their first two nanometer processor with the A20 Pro.
Wayne LambSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
5:43
The number of cores in both the GPU and NPU has an increase to improve on-device AI capabilities.
Wayne LambSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
5:49
Additionally, a brand new packaging technology and architecture was adopted to enable more efficient thermal management so that the processor can run faster and longer.
Wayne LambSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
5:59
All in all, the A20 Pro apps processor is the most powerful mobile processor Apple has ever produced.
speaker_1HOST
6:05
Two nanometers makes a great headline.

I want to ask Rajesh Krishnamurthy, one of our resident technical fellow, what actually changed in how this chip is made? Rajesh, what's your take on this?
Rajesh KrishnamurthySOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
6:16
A20 Pro is a milestone 2nm chip, the first commercially available chip manufactured using TSMC's 2nm process, which they refer to as the N2 process.
HawkinsHOST
12:44
Let's also mention that we are expected to get an updated iPad Mini, and that's something I forgot to mention, which we haven't seen two new iPads yet.
HawkinsHOST
12:54
The iPad 12th generation expected to have the Apple A18 chip for Apple Intelligence and also the iPad Mini 8th Gen expected to fix jelly scroll, which is a problem on the iPad Mini where one side of the display loads faster than the other, and also expected to have the Apple A19, potentially A20 Pro chip for Apple Intelligence.
HawkinsHOST
13:22
So both of these iPads are expected to have Apple Intelligence, thus the iPad base model, which is going to be the iPad 12th generation, I would expect it to have a price increase to start at maybe $449 because of Apple Intelligence.
HawkinsHOST
13:44
Though we don't know-- I don't know this 100%, but hopefully tomorrow we get two surprises at the event, both being two new iPads.
John SiracusaHOST
50:59
And some things are very sure, but this is definitely this, this is definitely that.
John SiracusaHOST
51:02
And other parts of the chip, they say in the videos, like... we don't know what this is and we're not going to guess so there is a large amount of unlabeled area but it's probably this stuff but anyway here are some tidbits i've pulled the highlights that i thought were interesting from this video again with timestamp links so the first bit is that the m6 uses the same super cores as the a20 pro and also the same e-course as the n20 pro with only small changes likely due to chipped area optimizations rather than core differences according to the video So that answers the question we kept speculating about and has changed over time.
John SiracusaHOST
51:34
It used to be that the M chips would have the like the big, they weren't called super cores then, but the big, the power cores from the previous phone chip.
John SiracusaHOST
51:43
And then when the new phone chip comes out, it would be one core generation ahead of the M chips.
John SiracusaHOST
51:48
But since then, the scheduling of everything having to do with silicon from Apple has just been all over the map.
John SiracusaHOST
51:54
And right now, the M6 and the A20 Pro are in sync.
John SiracusaHOST
51:57
They've got the same super cores and the same E cores.
John SiracusaHOST
52:00
Question.
Michael SimonHOST
28:35
Yeah.
Michael SimonHOST
28:36
Usually point to, and this last one, the 17, there were so many, like we, we talked about this ad nauseum, like it was the greatest, like, base model iphone upgrade we've gotten in a long time yeah i don't know what's left really for the 17 for the 18 versus the 17 i mean it's not going to get a telephoto lens it's not going to get um any of like the vapor cooling or the things that the pro however it won't even get the the a20 pro processor so yeah it'll have an
Jason CrossHOST
29:03
a20 non-pro which will be not that faster mildly faster Yeah.
Jason CrossHOST
29:11
Now, longer battery life, I guess, because of the chip improvements.
Jason CrossHOST
30:48
Speaking of the chip, the chip for me was the big surprise.
Michael SimonHOST
30:52
Okay.
Jason CrossHOST
30:52
The A20 Pro is...
Jason CrossHOST
30:55
Okay.
NiléaneGUEST

D. Griffin JonesHOST
58:12
Apple's next generation iPad Mini will feature the A20 Pro chip.
D. Griffin JonesHOST
58:16
I, I don't think, like, which chip it was going to have was confirmed 'cause sometimes the iPad Mini uses an old one.
D. Griffin JonesHOST
58:22
It could've been the A19 Pro, but it'll apparently have the A20 Pro.
D. Griffin JonesHOST
58:26
Uh, it'll be the last iPad to move to a landscape front-facing camera.
D. Griffin JonesHOST
58:31
Uh, and it has a small groove cutout in the top of the display glass, just like the iPhone, presumably for the speaker.
LiamHOST
16:11
Oh, we're going to talk about that processor.
LiamHOST
16:13
A20 Pro, 2 nanometer process, meaning really, really efficient.
LiamHOST
16:19
And I believe they said up to 40% better, like more powerful GPU, right? Which is just crazy and was put to the test by this guy.
LiamHOST
16:28
He ran War Thunder on, I think it was iPhone 16, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, 17 Air, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max.

ColtonHOST
33:53
Also, can I just say, no, you cannot say.
ColtonHOST
33:58
I know they have to, like, win the AI race, but I'm so sick and tired of them saying, like, meet Siri AI, your AI assistant, more personal, more powerful.
LiamHOST
34:13
Actually, the new Siri AI is good, but I would like to say, don't forget the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Duo, the A20 Pro chip.
LiamHOST
34:21
I have a 32-core neural engine, because why the heck not? Actually, no, it's not exactly a 32-core neural engine.
Jason SnellHOST
53:27
And new iPhones, you don't normally think new Macs, but now we have to.
Jason SnellHOST
53:33
The A20 Pro and last year's A19 Pro are on deck to be in the MacBook Neo in the future.
Jason SnellHOST
53:41
And so, you know, obviously the A20 Pro is much more accomplished than the A19 Pro.
Jason SnellHOST
53:48
And so the question is just, one, are they going to just go to the A19 Pro and what does that look like, you know, next year when they revise the Neo? Or would they go to the A20 Pro? I think it's less likely that they will.
Jason SnellHOST
54:03
I think that they'll use the year-old chip and not the few months-old chip.
Jason SnellHOST
54:08
But I wanted to look at performance on both of them and then just, you know, again, just kind of dream on it a little bit.
Jason SnellHOST
54:52
You still got something that's basically M1-ish in the form of the Neo, which remember, we all sort of think the Neo is essentially the... replacement for the m1 macbook air which they were still selling
Myke HurleyHOST
55:05
yeah

Leading off today, we've heard a lot about what to expect from Apple's next-generation iPad mini, and a new leak today says that it will pack some serious power, the A20 Pro chip inside.
Chance MillerHOST
0:27
When we've talked before about the new iPad mini rumors, we've been unsure whether it would feature the A19 or A20 chip.
Chance MillerHOST
0:36
According to MacRumors, however, code references from Apple say it will be the newest A20 Pro processor.
Chance MillerHOST
0:43
This is the same chip that launched in the iPhone 18 Pro earlier this month.
Chance MillerHOST

The current iPad mini, released in October 2024, runs on Apple's A17 Pro chip.
