And kind of the last question about sort of the standing of this book.

So a lot of people are, are, are very much, uh, respectful, I'll say, of Gary Gygax's Appendix N.

I thought that last bit of context is an interesting nugget for us RPG nerds, and Lynn Carter's World's End series does appear in Gygax's Appendix N in the DMG.

As for Lizzie's comments on Carter's habit of spewing random words as an alternative to proper worldbuilding, I have an alternative and, I think, more positive view, which is partly born from my love of M. John Harrison's fiction, including Viraconium.

and his own views on worldbuilding that he penned in 2007 in a blog post entitled Very Afraid.

This week, I've got a great topic for you.

We always hear about Appendix N, and as you saw by the title card, Appendix N started out as a great thing in the AD&D Dungeon Master's Guide.

No doubt about it, Appendix N was formative and important to the hobby.

But as the years roll on, and as we age as a player base, and as the original, the OG gangstas, the old grognards, are also consequently aging or aging out one way or another, Appendix N sort of shifts and takes on a different personal meaning.

Of course, there is the carved in stone Appendix N that we have, but we as individuals also glean different things.

From the nerd culture sphere that we bring into our own games of all sorts.

And we're going to talk about those today.

so why were we talking about effingham then

I'm excited to talk about Appendix N because it is more than famous.

Like this, and I, [laughs] you know, spoiler, I think this module's really good, right? But I, the, I think it works so well because actually this is almost, like, his natural state, and I think, okay, for marketing they're talking about the two genres and blah, blah, blah.

And, you know, you look at the, what is it? Appendix N, right? And not only is it Jack Vance, right, running the whole magic system and being a key thing, but he's got, like, Roger Zelazny and Jack of Shadows in there.

Like, I love that book and it's, like, you know, they're, they're bonkers stuff.

Chronicles of Amber as well, the Zelazny stuff.
