Okay, the Apocalypse trilogy with the Thing and Prince of Darkness.

Oh, I don't really like Prince of Darkness, dude.

That's not one of my favorites.

And we are looking at the second two-thirds of John Carpenter's iconic Apocalypse trilogy.

We are looking at Prince of Darkness and In the Mouth of Madness.

So Sean, here's your first time for both of these.

She ended up taking on the role of the leader of the evil herself.

So a little like The Thing, you know, it's got this kind of ambiguous dark ending that can be interpreted different ways, I think.

Yeah, I mean, it's in the Apocalypse trilogy for a reason.

I think the middle one is the one that's averted.

It's the alchemical transformation of man.

It's 1994, the year I was born, so we'll say old in movie time.

directed by john carpenter the third of the apocalypse trilogy of his which if you don't know what that is it is 1982 is the thing 1987's prince of darkness and 1994 is in the mouth of madness it's kind of like a I wouldn't even know if it's official or unofficially known as that, but I think it's relatively common knowledge that those three movies are interlinked in terms of their kind of carpenters starting the apocalypse films.

This one is starring Sam Neill, which is specifically why I wanted to talk about it, because Sam Neill, somebody that... recent death was impacted like by me and like i i'm by no means familiar enough with him to do like a proper like tribute like to everything that he's done in his life and even his career i don't have like a ton of familiarity with all of his work but he is big parts of things that i love and this is also a leading role from him that i found to be incredibly entertaining and and i know obviously like jurassic park's my favorite movie of all time and that's a movie that i know that i will cover at some point in in more like in-depth When maybe I have like a little bit better of a structure to talk about old movies.

But I did want to talk about this one just because I saw a screening of They Live at an independent theater near me.

and begins to question his sanity as the lines between reality and fiction seem to blur.

Informally, this film is the third and final installment in what Carpenter refers to as his Apocalypse trilogy, preceded by The Thing and Prince of Darkness.

In the Mouth of Madness pays tribute to the works of H.P. Lovecraft and its exploration of insanity, and its title is derived from the Lovecraft novella At the Mountains of Madness.

in the mouth of madness coming out an interesting time in, uh, John Carpenter's career.

I like that circular nature of, of, What were we ever supposed to believe? What actually happened here? Was this all like a self-fulfilling prophecy where this was going to happen no matter what? Is he a real person? I don't know.

I don't know if I know all the answers to it, but I do like how it all comes about.

And like you mentioned earlier, John Carpenter has said he has the Apocalypse trilogy, and each one ends with essentially what is going to possibly be the end of the world.

The Thing is an alien...

The film was written by Michael De Luca and directed and scored by John Carpenter.

Carpenter considers In the Mouth of Madness to be the final film in a loose science fictional horror trilogy, what Carpenter has referred to as his Apocalypse Trilogy, which also includes The Thing from 1982 and Prince of Darkness from 1987.

In the Mouth of Madness stars Jürgen Prochnow, and as an aside, Jürgen Prochnow will always be, to me, Duke Leto Atreides or Leto Atreides.

Leto if you're using the Herbert pronunciation or Leto if you're using the Lynch pronunciation from David Lynch's adaptation of Dune in 1984.

But the reason you reference that is because, so we're going to sideways a little bit here.

John Carpenter has a trilogy, which he calls his Apocalypse Trilogy, which starts off with 1982's The Thing.

And then it's The Prince of Darkness.
