Antony Beevor

Perpetually like after after the Europeans like won Spain back, you know, for for Christendom.

It's a. Beaver made the point, too, and Beaver's book is great because it's larded with facts and he makes some great points.

He's got some conceptual prejudices and but I rely on him a lot.

He made the point that in the Middle Ages from the Middle Ages until the end of the until the end of the 18th century, Spain lost something like half its population.

And just the fact that there were Romanians on the ground in the first place, um, you know, and then they're, they were being greeted and saluted by, you know, uh, Schutzstaffel men, you know, and, um, you had Italian priests, you know, like, like, like blessing them and things.

And then, and then there was even like secular, like French fascists, like Action Française types, like saluting them, you know, who had obviously like no, no, no truck with reactionary Catholicism as it was perceived, you know, on its own terms.

But that's most important in America too, because really some historians, including Anthony Beevor, who I, I think he's overall a very good historian, particularly, I mean, he's not a revisionist really at all.

As far as core historians go, um, I, I think he's probably the best, you know, on the subject of the Second World War and the interwar years.

Of course.

Anthony Beevor wrote a book about D-Day, I think it was, that got, was quite controversial 'cause he was describing things like Canadian soldiers cutting off German, uh, soldiers' ears and keeping them as mementos, and some people didn't like that 'cause they're like, "We're the good guys."

We're the good guys.

"We're the people from Saving Private Ryan."

It's just fortuitous for Franco.

Most of the non-combat extraju- judicial killings are eventually reined in by both sides by 1936.

But the Republicans in particular continue the practice of executing non-combat- combatant enemies with the illusions, uh, with the illusion of trials.

Yeah, so the, um, when you, when you look at the, like, Beevor, um, t- style numbers, and when I was working on this, Pete, I was thinking about the numbers.
