Antonio Pappano

Great question.

I have fantastic memories from recording the Schumann Concerto and Schumann small pieces in Rome with Sancho Cecilia and Antonio Pappano conducting.

I had chosen this orchestra to record the Schumann after having played with them at BBC Proms and of course working with Tony and I thought that they really were able to capture the sound that I wanted for Schumann.

And despite many challenges, including quite a bad piano at Santa Cecilia at the time and other challenges, I think it was a wonderful recording and I have great, great memories from doing it.

Next time on APM SymphonyCast, violinist Janine Jansson joins the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and conductor Antonio Pappano for the sweeping violin concerto in D major by Brahms.

And then Richard Strauss takes us on a musical journey through Italy in his colorful tone poem Aus Italien.
