Antiques Roadshow

In this week's episode, Greg and I have a somewhat circuitous conversation about the academic curriculum vitae across the professional lifespan, what it is, why we have it, and what kinds of things may or may not go on it.

So I've been spending a lot of time in these last couple of years with people who are later in life than we.

For some reason, I have found myself watching a lot of antiques roadshow.

That tracks.

Okay.

At 10 o'clock, Line of Fire.

Channel 39, WFWA PBS at 8 o'clock, Antiques Roadshow.

9 o'clock, Antiques Roadshow.

And 10 o'clock, Voices.

And finally, Channel 55, WFFT, Fox at 8 o'clock.

It's an interesting machine.

And some of you guys are probably familiar with it because it was on Antiques Roadshow.

So on September 1st of 1940, the Royal Typewriter Company awarded its vice president of sales, Maxim Vincent Miller, a Royal KMM typewriter for 10 years of service.

The machine itself was completely top to bottom covered in 24 karat gold.

It brought in a lot of customers into the dealerships.

The typewriter has since been given back to Maxim and then passed down to family, and it is currently with family, which I happen to find and have conversations with.

I will say that on the Antiques Roadshow, it's no big secret, you probably find the clip.

It was valued at $40,000, which is just an insane amount of money.

You know, I mean, it's one of them kind of has a signature on the bottom, you know.

I mean, you saw it on Antiques Roadshow, and they said it was worth a lot.

[laughs] And man, she comes along and she stops, and she just looks at it and admires it.

Draws from its beauty, some inspiration and some happiness and joy, and then she dusts it and goes on.

I put some money...

I did play Antiques Roadshow, the slot machine there.

[laughs]

Um...

... is how it's ruining the flyer

... cent?

Is, like, these people go, "Oh, now we have one that looks good." It's like, the old one looked so good that they would've sold it on Antiques Roadshow later.
