Anti-submarine warfare

Two, long experience in mapping and operating in that Pacific region.

And three, as you noted, allies who operate the P-8 Poseidon patrol plane with its immense anti-submarine warfare capabilities, and so many other things.

But that said, we know that keeping that undersea advantage is absolutely critical.

You know, we've got about 26 of the Virginia-class active at the moment, another 23 in the pipeline, and the Navy has confirmed their importance when the Chief of Naval Operations, uh, about two months ago announced that new Virginia-class submarines will have an enhanced payload module.

But I think at this point, this is not gonna tip the balance as long as the US continues to produce both the submarines and everything that goes with it, like the P-8 and other systems, in order to keep that advantage.

But no question, the Type 095 signals China wants to really contend in the undersea warfare environment.

The other institution I'm told China trails in is anti-submarine warfare, but that's 10 years out of date.

It is, it's interesting because we've talked about submarines, anti-submarine warfare.

I'd love to dive into some of these capabilities.

I, uh, if we could unpack anti-submarine warfare, you know, for our listeners, Canada historically was actually very well respected in the ASW realm.

You know, we've been a nation that has actually been considered quite proficient, if not excellent, at this capacity.

Anti-submarine warfare is a major feature of the Type 26 design.

And then, you know, if you have all that, I think you can deter the enemy from even thinking about it.

Yeah.

It's interesting how, how so much of ASW is really deterrence.
