So to recap, number five, A.J. Holmes Jr., defensive tackle, Texas Tech; Mike Hawkins Jr., the quarterback West Virginia; Bear Bachmeier; L.J. Martin; and then Drew Mestemaker at number one.

He'd be clear number one, he's barely number one over L.J., if they hadn't lost to Tulsa.

And even I underestimated the gap, at least as it stands today.

However, AJ Holmes has still been really good.

Um, you know, I could cite a couple of different metrics, but I think the one I saw recently was he's, he's like top five nationally and quarterback pressures from the interior, um, And he might have help on the way.

I think our current edges leave something to be desired.

We don't know how good Trey White is yet.

Sounds like he's trending in the right direction, according to what Joey said tonight.

So if that's true, if you have one really good edge rusher in Trey White, one really good defensive tackle in A.J. Holmes, and then your floor after that is kind of high, you can do something with that.

The linebacker room, you of course lose, in my opinion, the best defensive player in college football last year, Jacob Rodriguez.

So number five, Cutter Bowley.

Number four, A.J. Holmes Jr., defensive tackle, Texas Tech.

Number 22 in NFL draft buzz, first round projection potentially, Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in the preseason.

That Tech defense is not quite what it was last year, but he is the best defensive player in the league as of this moment in my opinion.

Number four, A.J. Holmes Jr., Texas Tech.

Number three, Bear Bachmeier, quarterback BYU, one of six power conference quarterbacks this century to start a season with three plus touch- passing touchdowns, one plus rushing touchdowns in the first two games.
