Most Catholic schools are named for a patron saint.

And so the staff and students and wider community can look to a particular life of heroic virtue for inspiration.

Though I would have to take three buses to school and home an hour and a half each way, it was worth it.

I could go to a Catholic school.

Little did Holy Cross know that they were preparing a future Archbishop for Sydney.

But they gave me a solid grounding in Catholic catechism, knowledge of many things, a love for people, a sense of service.

In year five, a green-sashed white-habited brother, Columba, taught me the commandments, beatitudes and much else.

In 1973, the American writer Ursula Le Guin published a short work of philosophical fiction, The Ones Who Walk Away from the Omnilus.

set in an imaginary city where all enjoy peace and prosperity.

But I think that part of what's difficult for folks, apropos of the obligation, is that it seems at times like a choice.

And so I think about the conversation that we had with Archbishop Anthony Fisher over the summer at the Jubilee of Young People, where he was asked like, what do you think Gen Z struggles with most? And he says, courage.

I think they struggle with courage.

Insofar as we make certain observations about Gen Z when it comes to like flakiness or a certain...

Not long ago, they were saying in the church that we are all Jesuits now.

Now we are all Augustinians.

But nonetheless, in the UK and elsewhere, there's increasing concern about what Pope Francis... famously described as polite persecution.

I mean, I'm a great fan of Archbishop Anthony Fisher, the Archbishop of Sydney, and I follow him.

And he began one of his homilies by saying that a huge number of people in Australia are feel they have to keep their heads down when it comes to declaring their faith, that 70 plus percent of people, as it said, felt pressurized to keep their beliefs private.

Do you think that, I mean obviously we're not the same as Australia, but at the same time there are certain parallels.

On the recent Feast of the Transfiguration, we recalled that day when Christ allowed his divine glory to radiate from his body.

Shining beside him were Moses and Elijah, who were discussing Jesus' forthcoming Passover through death to resurrection glory.

It's there that we can listen to him.

Not in cyclone, earthquake or bushfire, but in the gentle breeze that only a quietened soul can hear.

I was also interested in the pro-life movement.

I met now Archbishop Anthony Fisher when he was still a student for the Dominican Order in the late 1980s.

And he'd actually been a pro-life campaigner on a Sydney University campus in the early 1980s.

He came to speak to us at the school.

That's how I describe myself.

I love the body of Christ.

You mentioned Anthony Fisher.

He, of course, is the Archbishop of Sydney and I think a great man in Australia in terms of leadership in the church.

And, you know, again, the leadership of the Catholic Church have been saying some really outrageous things.

You know, Anthony Fisher, the Archbishop of Sydney, said in the Catholic Weekly the other day that if we allow telehealth, there'll be no serious doctor's consultation or no discussion of palliative care or other medical needs.

Now, they're just blatant lies.

And this from the leader of the Catholic Church.
