Anorexia nervosa

The walls are physically closing in until there is barely room to breathe.

That is anorexia nervosa.

The restriction just compounds on itself.

Right.

It imposes a rigid hierarchy to prevent diagnostic chaos because many of these symptoms overlap.

In clinical practice, you cannot give a patient multiple primary eating disorder diagnoses simultaneously.

Anorexia nervosa sits at the absolute top of this hierarchy.

It's the king of the castle, diagnostically speaking.

Masochism is not.

Anorexia kills you.

Asceticism does not.

I do believe that somehow fasting needs to be brought back to the masses to inculcate some of these key lessons.

Well, fasting is a benefit.
