Typically, the making of an internet star begins with a 4chan poster urging others to swarm the target destination to increase its ranking and profile.

The website has been also cited in the news media as the birthplace of Anonymous, the online collective of hackers and activists who have gained public notoriety for its cyber attacks on a wide range of religions, corporate, and governmental institutions.

The visuals of it morphed in a way that I don't know if the creators expected or the creators may have even hoped for.

And that is the iconic Guy Fawkes mask, which became the symbol of a hacker group known as Anonymous.

But if you look at the photos of that camp, and I'd forgotten this, that you see lots of people wearing the Guy Fawkes mask that became really well known for Anonymous, the hacktivist group.

And it, of course, was loosely associated with the Occupy movement.

And there were loads of Occupy protests across the world focusing initially on the big banks.

And now, their Occupy Wall Street image and hashtag was ripping through the internet.

One of the groups that promoted this idea to occupy Wall Street was Anonymous, the hacktivist collective that had gained notoriety for launching cyberattacks against corporations and the Church of Scientology.

Anonymous announced that they were taking to the streets and urged people to join them.
