And I was thinking about that even on my drive down here.

I was listening to Anohni's great record, My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross.

Mm.

And a lot of the time it's her repetition of a line of lament or a line of joy-

I mean,

yeah, I, I, I, uh, about a year and a half ago, I interviewed the musician Anoni, um, And she was on tour, and the tour was called It's Time to Feel What's Really Happening.

And just listening to you, like...

I think there's actually some value in actually putting that into words, which we don't do very much, right? I think we do spend a lot of time distracting ourselves and numbing ourselves out and almost not being able to believe that we really are where we are, in part because it's so hackneyed.

We, I think we do have to get at that, that deferral and just be like, "We really are where we are." [laughs] Like, believe where we are.

I, you know, I, I think I had a really formative moment in my own thinking about this that I think was a big part of the reason why I decided that I wanted to do this writing, um, before we wrote our first piece for The Guardian when I interviewed the musician Anohni.

Um, Anohni had the, uh, uh, her last tour was called It's Time to, It's Time to Believe What's Really Happening, [laughs] which I think-

... would, it, um, is such a great title for a tour, right? Um, and, and so we did this on-stage conversation- And Anoni, you know, does not like the organized religions, but was making the connections with AI and with, um, with a Christian dream because, because Anoni grew up in a very religious Catholic, um, uh, family.

So we are obviously without Anoni to say who is on a little break.

We do miss her very much.

We will do our best without her.

I've stayed out all night clubbing, basically getting this whole amazing nightclub experience.

And then I've gone again the next day, which if you're able to do that and you enjoy it, I do think it's fantastic.

value for money but for me it would be like spending all that money on seeing a few choice artists and coming home and having a bit of a bit of a wobbler I think I've realised and Anoni posted about this on her stories she was like I'm not really a festival girly I thought I was I tried to be I'm just not really a festival girly obviously if Emily Evers is listening and she wants to helicopter us in and to perform and stay in a teepee forget what I just said but I've just it's quite peaceful to realise this about myself like That's not who I am.

I am an all-inclusive or like a kind of Hyde Park.

Anyway.

Recently, do you know, Anoni, her 2023 album, My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross, has sort of come to me recently.

And it feels like it's come to me just at the right time.

And I'm just floored by it.

Kimber actually did another show that was unbelievable that was called Future Feminism.

She and Anoni and Coco Rosie and another, Johanna something, as a collective, they got these... 13 Rose Quartz discs and engraved each one with their manifesto of future feminism.

It was kind of ridiculous, but then also really sophisticated and thoughtful.

They did 13 tenets of future feminism and 13 nights of performance.
