Annecy International Animation Film Festival

So I think the problem is the festivals all feel outdated to me.

Like I didn't go to Annecy this year, but everyone I've spoken to who went there was like, it was great, but, no one was really like nothing was really happening there was lots of pitching and drinking and and being like sweaty but it was like there's something's fundamentally missing and i think it's like but that's what i'm saying we need a structure where when maybe even a collective channel that you know like adult swim for artists that you can You know, I don't know, we need to shift it.

And I think it might even be, it's sad to say, because I love the social side of those festivals, but I feel like it might need to be a digital one where, you know, you're not restricted by flights and hotels and we can all join, you know, everyone can get involved and really drive forward this, this new wave of like, yeah, like a new way of how to monetize digitally, basically.

And they went to CMC in Sheffield.

children's media conference in Sheffield and my friend was very happy about that choice because of that reason more access to people and there's tons of different events well not tons but like a handful and you can look at the cost and the opportunity cost maybe I don't go to NSC but I go to CMC for instance maybe I can save a little bit of money and on top of that get more access to certain types of people that uh i want to meet and thirdly i think consistency is really important um and being out there uh like adam was talking about being out there digitally and putting yourself out and having like a showcase of who i am and what what can i do for you and what can i do for the like that is also important in um in person and i think when people see you around even if it's once a year at one event which is kind of what I try to do because I don't have resources to do anything else or the time.

But, you know, I try to be at Annecy.

Maybe that'll shift in the years to come, but at least like the one place where, you know, you go there just to see people shake their hands, hug them.

Yeah, I mean, it's taken a little bit of time for this film to reach local viewers.

It originally premiered back at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France in 2024.

That festival is kind of like the Cannes of animated film festivals.

And then it went on to screen at the Tokyo Film Festival and it sold to a whole bunch of countries in Europe and Asia.

And France is clearly using this as a cultural diplomacy tool.

The statement detailed ongoing Franco-Nigerian collaborations, support for Nollywood Week in Paris, a partnership with Storimi Academy for documentary training, Nigerian participation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and cooperation in the video game sector through Lagos Games Week.

That includes training and pitching panels with companies like Ubisoft and Virtuos.

There's also mention of support for pan-African esports tournaments, digital skills boot camps for local game studios, and assistance enabling Nigerian studios to attend international festivals like Gamers Assembly and Gamescom.

See, I told you it was a Christmas movie.

It then made its rounds outside Japan at the Annecy Film Festival in June 2021, and then basically went on a world tour for the rest of the summer.

It was well-received at all the film festivals it went to.

Critics across the board loved this movie.

Well, I'll tell you the next thing that's going on for us is we're going to Annecy Film Festival in France.

So this is a huge film festival.

It's an animation festival, I think one of the oldest in the world and certainly one of the biggest.
