I just want to mention, since you mentioned Mad Mabel, if you've never seen Heavenly Creatures, which is based on the true story of Australia's youngest murderers, also first films for Kate Winslet and Melanie Linsky, both amazing.

It's really good and also it's of interest because it turned out that Anne Perry, the mystery novelist, was one of those women and her identity was revealed because she had changed her name after all that.
