Senator Tim Keynes wants $2 million for AI research at George Mason University.

His wife, Anne Holton, has been on the faculty since 2017 and was previously the school's interim president.

At least some earmarks will be cut or have their dollar total reduced before they are signed into law, but many will be funded with little opposition, driving up the cost of a budget that already contains nearly unprecedented spending increases.

A community center in Richmond's Northside was packed Thursday night for the debate between Anne Holton and Jackie McDonough.

McDonough, a retired educator, taught at Richmond Public Schools and then Virginia Commonwealth University.

She emphasized the need to improve school conditions and engage better with parents.

meeting them where they are and welcoming them in with the resources that they need to be active participants in their children's learning.

Holton, Virginia's former secretary of education, has been the interim sixth district board member since February.

She said teachers have fueled gains in student test scores and they deserve pay raises so the district can keep them.

But those gains are at risk because our revenues do not match our needs.
