Annabeth Chase

He really is.

Then you have Aryan Simhadri as Grover and Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth.

And here's a fun piece of trivia from the source.

Annabeth was actually played by Alexandra Daddario in the older movie adaptations.

Oh, right.

Yeah, but this new young cast is just perfect, and they've even got heavy-hitting adults to anchor it, like Jason Mantzoukas is playing Mr.

Well, yeah, dude, it's so bad, and it's not...

They did a TV show where they made Annabeth a Black woman.

Ugh.

[laughs]

We don't know when Ethan left camp.

I feel like it's sort of implied by the fact that Annabeth recognizes him, but Percy doesn't, that he left before.

But he might have left with Luke, like a lot of people did, you know?

What are we putting on the card for Fallout of Luke deserting camp? What do we think is going down there?

I don't know.

Like, I think of all of the demigods we've been introduced to so far, I don't think we've really gotten that story of, like, always feeling like you have a different mortal sibling who's being held up higher than you.

I guess Annabeth a little has that.

But it's sort of a different situation, though, because it's not, like, it feels like it comes more from her stepmom than her dad, at least for her.

[laughs]

... a Black girl as Annabeth.

[laughs]

Yes.

Not really fully there.

And so I like that it just says, "We picked up my friends," plural, "Annabeth and Thalia on the way." Great.

Everything we need to know.

In the six months between then and now, Percy and Thalia are...

Me too

... great character development in just, "Hey, here's what you need to know about their relationship." Yeah, I didn't, I wasn't gonna make them fucking hate each other off screen.

I like that it aligns with what Percy was kind of told by Annabeth.

"Hey-

There were some other great tidbits in the source about this.

Right, like star Walker Scobell noting how difficult Season 3 is gonna be for Percy without Annabeth around.

Because that season will cover the Titan's curse, where she goes missing early on.

Exactly.

A game of dodgeball turns deadly, and his strange and very tall friend Tyson reveals a never-before-suspected ability to catch fireballs with his bare hands.

Percy and Tyson are rescued by Annabeth, the daughter of Athena, who takes both boys to Camp Half-Blood, but all isn't well there either.

The sacred pine tree that protects the camp has been poisoned and is slowly dying.

Camp is overrun by monsters.

Yeah.

But has sort of said that he never really makes eye contact with him, never really looks above his nose.

And then when Annabeth, his sort of sidekick and friend from the first book, kind of rescues him and picks him up, she says, "Look past the mist." And he looks up and Tyson has one eye and he's a Cyclops.

Yeah.

What was your favorite thing about returning?

Oh, definitely seeing the characters, as you mentioned, Selina and Clarice and Beckendorf and the Stoll brothers in their natural environment, if you will, without Percy and Annabeth and Grover kind of taking all the limelight.

What are the dynamics like when they're not around for the summer? That was my favorite part about going back and exploring this.

Yeah, I think for me it was exploring the lighter side of things because in the, you know, in the Percy Jackson books, there's a lot of, there's always kind of just like something heavy.
