Raven DawsonHOST

So I've only heard bits and pieces.
Raven DawsonHOST
49:32
I got her and Anna Delvey mixed up because it's two white bitches with blonde hair scamming people.
Raven DawsonHOST
49:36
So I didn't know what I was walking into.
Raven DawsonHOST
49:38
Amanda.
Isabel J. KimHOST
14:05
And that's not great, man.
Amanda SilberlingHOST
14:07
With, I mean, another fraudster that was turned into a TV show, Anna Delvey, the sort of like Like German heiress who like she was pretending to be an heiress and then scammed a bunch of people out of a lot of money and they made a documentary about not a documentary.
Amanda SilberlingHOST
14:23
They made like a series about it on Netflix.
Isabel J. KimHOST
14:26
With her, people were
Isabel J. KimHOST
14:42
What Elizabeth Holmes did had actual, like, effects on people's health.
Isabel J. KimHOST
14:45
Because she made a product that she was lying about.
Amanda SilberlingHOST
14:47
Like, Elizabeth Holmes did... also defraud people, which the money she was dealing with was way bigger than Anna Delvey, by the way.
Amanda SilberlingHOST
14:58
But I think for me, what makes her irredeemable is even though she was only convicted on counts related to defrauding investors, whereas Sunny Balwani in a separate trial was convicted of all accounts, which included both defrauding investors and stuff related to patients getting false medical info.
Amy PhillipsHOST
5:46
I love the people that you cast on it.
Amy PhillipsHOST
5:48
I think you said Anna Delvey.
Amy PhillipsHOST
5:50
Wait, you didn't mention, oh yes, Scamanda, of course.
Amy PhillipsHOST
5:55
Elizabeth Holmes.
EmmaHOST
21:06
I mean, Dancing with the Stars is no stranger to scammers.
EmmaHOST
21:09
They had Anna Delvey on a recent season and I think she had an ankle monitor.
EmmaHOST
21:15
Bedazzled for the show.
MeganHOST
21:17
Yeah.
Laci MosleyGUEST
20:00
But financial fraud can be somebody pretending to have a lot of wealth or a lot of influence and being like, invest in this and this is how we're going to make the money and da-da-da-da-da.
Laci MosleyGUEST
20:09
They can slow, like you got your Anna Delvey's.
Laci MosleyGUEST
20:11
They can slowly walk you down the path and you have no idea.
Laci MosleyGUEST
20:15
Yeah,
Clara MalleyHOST
12:54
I feel like I felt like he opened the door a lot wider than I think even just the evidence of the film would justify in terms of creating this gray area about her level of complicit, like how complicit she was in the crimes she committed, if that makes sense.
Clara MalleyHOST
13:12
And I think that not to use Anna Delvey's point because I don't actually agree with much of what she said in the airmail thing but like I do think that so much of the film is sort of setting up her relationship with Billy as being a proxy for her relationship with Sonny and I think that a lot of what the film relies upon is saying that if this is how she's acting in this relationship with Billy, then this must have been the dynamic with Sunny and therefore were able to determine that she was probably being manipulated, that she didn't understand what she was signing, that there were contracts that were happening without her, you know, understanding and all that stuff but like at the same time this woman was convicted of a federal crime and went to a federal prison and part of being convicted of a crime in that type of way is they have to establish the fact that you I mean are as a reasonable person would have had some level of like understanding that what you were doing is wrong you know what I mean like if she's doing the quote-unquote like I don't know insanity defense but in terms of like I don't get jokes I I just don't think these things are actually compatible.
Clara MalleyHOST
14:14
And I feel like I wish Nathan Fielder would have been slightly more like if you're going to go to the extent of like showing her this comedy skit and then being like, OK, you're saying that you don't understand this, but you're also sophisticated enough to create this.
Clara MalleyHOST
14:28
can versus could thing
Hannah AdamsHOST
59:58
And I will never not be fascinated by this woman.
Hannah AdamsHOST
60:01
Because it's one thing to be fascinated by someone like Anna Delvey, which I'm also fascinated by.
Hannah AdamsHOST
60:06
Yeah.
Hannah AdamsHOST
60:06
Anna Delvey didn't kill people.
Hannah AdamsHOST
60:08
That's true.
Hannah AdamsHOST
60:09
Yeah.
Presley WannerGUEST
39:01
So a lot of times we talk about sociopathy and lack of empathy, but it's there, it's just used very differently.
Liat SacksHOST
39:14
Okay, what about one of my favorites? Anna Delvey, a.k.a.

Anna Sorokin.
Liat SacksHOST
39:22
You didn't watch this? No.
Liat SacksHOST
39:24
Oh, my God.
Liat SacksHOST
39:25
Anna Delvey, she claimed she was a wealthy German heiress in New York and borrowed from banks, hotels, and friends, totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars in debts that she never repaid while living in luxury the whole time on other people's dime.
Liat SacksHOST
39:40
It was crazy.
Liat SacksHOST
39:41
And she would talk to people and talk down to them and be like, Like that's poor.
Michelle AndrewsHOST
32:35
We also had, if we're looking at recent history for a moment, we have, you know, Elizabeth Holmes most recently, Gypsy Rose a few years ago.
Michelle AndrewsHOST
32:43
Going back a tiny bit further than that, maybe five years ago, we were all about Anna Delvey.
Michelle AndrewsHOST
32:49
Who's Anna Delvey, Gil? Yeah.
Eilish GilliganHOST
32:51
Anna Dolby is a scammer, basically.
Eilish GilliganHOST
32:55
She defrauded, I think it was something like $200,000 from banks and from her friends, which I find particularly egregious.
Tony KatzHOST
56:53
And this is Tony Katz today.
Tony KatzHOST
56:55
