Anna Kavan

She was called the female Kafka and she had a significant heroin addiction and a very bizarre, uh, identity change as an author and as a woman.

Her name was Anna Kavan.

And she has a story called Machines in the Head amongst several of her publications.

And there are so many fantastic passages she's written.

[laughs]

There is also, um, of course, a lot of, including Lauren Groff, there are, um, lots of real authors and books referenced throughout the novel, but, uh, Anna Kavan's, um, Sleep Has His House is one of Parker and Selena's sort of shared all-time favorites.

Is that a favorite of yours as well?

So Anna Kavan is interesting.

So first of all, we did swap out the title-

Oh, okay

... uh, between the arc and the final edition.

So it is, um... it's a different Anna Kavan book.
