Anna Chennault had been married to American war hero Major General Lee Chennault, commander of the China-based Flying Tiger Fighter Squadron in World War II.

After the war, he had stayed in China and started a cargo transport airline.

But when China fell to the Communist Party, he had returned home and sold the airline to the CIA.

Flynn was then forced to resign last February after he'd misled Vice President Pence.

But the occasion before that was in 1968, and the people who could have been charged then were a Chinese American widow called Anna Chennault, and no less than the Republican candidate for president, Richard Nixon, whose actions at the time contributed to thousands of US servicemen losing their lives over the next four years.

After losing in the Supreme Court, Nixon took even more drastic steps to stop leaks.

He was especially worried about files on the Chennault affair.

The Chennault affair was the Nixon campaign's alleged 1968 effort through intermediary Anna Chennault to persuade South Vietnam to delay peace talks with North Vietnam until after the US presidential election.

Nixon told his aide, Chuck Colson, to get the files, but getting the files really meant breaking into the Brookings Institution and stealing them.

The team included G. Gordon Liddy and aides Egil Krogh and David Young.
