M
13:08Michael FairbanksGUEST
Yes, I then saw Anna Biller's The Face of Horror.
M
13:12Michael FairbanksGUEST
This is her decade-in-the-making follow-up to The Love Witch, which I think is okay.
M
13:18Michael FairbanksGUEST
It has a really beautiful technicolor aesthetic that she very much helped cultivate.
M
16:17Michael FairbanksGUEST
It wears that artifice right on its sleeve, but it is just captivating.
M
16:24Michael FairbanksGUEST
I think the only issue I had with it is that it's two hours long and it kind of treads over the same confrontations and conversations and beats over and over again, especially, um, between Edward and Eleanor.
M
16:40Michael FairbanksGUEST
I feel like you watch the same argument, um, few times and i think if a more judicious editor had gone in and said like cut these scenes out like you have to pick between a couple scenes and they've gotten this down to like 100 minutes this would be an all-timer kind of vibes stoner comedy um i think it just misses that mark but it comes really close and it made me very excited to see what anna biller is going to do next

A

But so it is a story about a wealthy man who basically, kills his wives and then um there's one that tries to avoid fate the fate of her like you know the previous wives i guess there's like a fate thing with this movie as well this is always going to happen to you that happens like towards the end uh so how do you feel about that because i i wasn't feeling like it was fate at first but maybe because i'm trying to figure out like Like, why are we hypnotizing people and making them kill their, like, you know, friends, relatives and other people? Like, what's going on? Like, is this fate? Like, everybody's fucking crazy.
