What would you suggest for a teacher in that position?

Okay, first we'll assume that their district has purchased a curriculum for math and hopefully viewed it from the instructional point of view, the content and the instruction, that they choose the best one that would meet these.

And so the first thing that I would look for is on the strands that are in the math program or in the science program or in the social studies program, Did they break it down into obtainable pieces so that the students have more probability of learning it? And both of the sciences that we come from say, break it down, break it down, break it down, break it down.

So recently, I was sitting with a group of teachers and they were in fifth grade.

And I said, what is the next material that you have to teach? What is the next math concept? And they said it was being able to plot coordinates on a grid.

And I said, Oh, and so what is the first lesson? Well, we're giving them a grid with the x axis and the y axis.

And both of them are numbered, the columns are numbered, the rows are numbered, and they have to plot.

I'm just, I'm curious how you weather that, how you deal with it, maybe passing that information on to us who are sort of taking on this work anew.
